You hope it tanks just because there is a girl headlining the night? It's not like she took someone else's spot, or that because of her fight, another good fight isn't going to happen. Get a grip, dumbass.

This is not Ronda/Cyborg, this is Ronda and some no name they are dragging off the street to get armbarred.. And Hendo/Machida should be 5 rds, this fight prevents that.. Ronda will not need 1 round to win this fight.. But Machida may need the 4th and 5th to outpoint Hendo..

Fair point, and one that I hadn't thought of. Of course, Machida is going to RNC Hendo in the second round and it will all be moot, but it's still a good point.

Im fine with women's MMA being in the UFC but if they are going to headline a card Then Fuel TV is the place to do it. Bad business decision. Rousey is no joke. Very, very talented, but damn Dana. Let women's MMA build some steam before you put them on a ppv, especially main eventing. If it was against Cyborg then I would be ok with them on the main card...but still not main eventing....Poor, poor decision IMO.

“Ronda is headlining UFC 157. Here is why I have a problem with that. Ronda is the champion of Strikeforce with 6 wins in less than 2 years of a mma professional career. That’s impressive regardless of who she has fought. However, she is not the UFC champion yet. She still has to win this fight to get that belt. On the other hand, we have Hendo, who has also been the Strikeforce champion (never lost the belt), Pride champion in 2 different weight classes; he has been ranked #1 contender for the UFC 205 lbs, and #6 by many pound for pound best fighter. His resume is second to none, moreover, he is fighting a former champion, Lyoto Machida. Now why aren’t they main event? Is Ronda a better market value? I don’t know, but her fight could be quick as usual and we could be missing another historic 5 rds fight between 2 legends and possible hall of famers. I’m not saying she doesn’t deserve to headline an UFC event, but certainly not this one.
…
Where I come from, there’s a pecking order for anything in life. I believe in paying dues. In this particular case, ‘Hendo’ and Machida paid their dues a long time ago. For someone new to come in and have a free ride just seems unfair to them and the whole sport they helped build.”

There is too big of a deal made of this. If UFC wanted to have Hendo vs machida a 5 rounder they would do this. It's not said that they have to be a main event to fight 5 rds.
All in all Ronda is a champion so she is above every other non-title fight.
All in all womens mma is on a lower level then men, so that's why it does not suits me. But whatever. They will not have a success with women as Dana once said there are not enough girls to create a whole division. Now it seems like there are and Dana said it's not gonna be ronda vs xxx. So let's see how many 135 pounders gonna fight.

That is what sucks, Machida is one of my first favorite fighters, even before Bones Jones; I just don't want Machida to fight Bones again, would rather see a new opponent vs Bones. Machida could easily get on a roll and back in the title picture again.
Hendo also has to worry about that Gustaffson vs Mousasi fight in April.

Really nothing with Ronda matters until she fights Cyborg. She has to prove that she is the best women’s fighter in the world and the only way that happens is through Cyborg. Ronda Rousey vs. Liz Carmouche - for women's bantamweight title
Armbar... Not sure Ronda knows another sub...
•Dan Henderson vs. Lyoto Machida •
UD but I hope Dan wins so we can still get Jones/Hendo but I think Machida will be too quick and elusive...
Urijah Faber vs. Ivan Menjivar
Sub...
•Manny Gamburyan vs. Chad Mendes
• Josh Koscheck vs. Robbie Lawler

Ronda Rousey v. Liz Carmouche - I've only seen Ronda's and Liz's highlights, so this pick is purely going on hype...
Dan Henderson v. Lyota Machida - Gotta go with my boy Hendo on this one - he's the reason I started watching MMA and I'll be proudly wearing my Hendo ball cap on Saturday night.
Urijah Faber v. Ivan Menjivar - Faber is the kind of guy that will beat everybody but the truly elite
Court McGee v. Josh Neer - McGee with the submission in the 2nd.
Josh Koscheck v. Robbie Lawler - I'll probably regret this pick, but I'm with TroutBum on it. I just can't give myself any reason to root for Koscheck.

Ronda Rousey vs. Liz Carmouche - for women's bantamweight title
Ronda probably has superior grappling to all women currently competing in MMA.. We have no idea how her striking and cardio or for that matter chin will hold up in a long fight. Liz is pretty tough but she is likey going to get dragged to the ground and sub'd like all the rest. Ronda comes off to me as arrogant and stubborn she will probably try the arm-bar just to prove she can do it to anyone. That may give Liz a chance to escape and sink in a sub of her own..
•Dan Henderson vs. Lyoto Machida
Rooting for Hendo but i think Machida will win a UD by moving and avoiding the big right hand of Hendo. Machida also has very good TDD and i would not rule out him taking Hendo down either..
•Urijah Faber vs. Ivan Menjivar
•Court McGee vs. Josh Neer
•Josh Koscheck vs. Robbie Lawler

Dana pre-fight media scrum..
Dana in rare scumbag form here. Ariel asks “Lots of guys have been on skids, you are saying it is the way you fight”
Dana
“No this is a business, Fitch is making a ton of money and he was on a skid”
That's fine however If Ariel asked Dana how much he makes Dana would say something like
“Fuck you, don’t worry about it”
This is not like the NFL making cuts and we know exactly what the cap space is they are saving, nobody knows how much Fitch was really making other than his show and win money which as of UFC 117 was 108 grand to show and win..
Guys like Wandy and Nog have gone through losing streaks and never been cut because of who they are and the fans loving them so much.. This cut by Dana of Fitch was 100% personal. The number 9 guy in a division doesn’t just get bounced without shady bullshit going on behind the scenes.

No, but I'll be heading to a bar to watch it. The only fight I'm seriously vested in is the Hendo-Machida fight - other than that the card doesn't do much for me (although Faber can usually be counted on for a good show).

I truly find Ronda to be smug, arrogant and annoying. She comes off like the stuck up little daddy's girl. At the presser she was giving Dana an attitude about putting the belt on her shoulder for pictures and had this "Do i really have to Dana" look on her face..

Well she does not consider herself a champion cause she has not fought in the UFC.
But I do not like her at all and do find her attractive like there is said her to be.
dbreiden83080

I don't find anything classy or humble about her. She says things like "I am going to retire undefeated and there is nothing any of these girls can do about it” all while having this smug look on her face. Try a little of the GSP approach to being a champion honey... Oh wait that's right she hates GSP because she is a Nick Diaz hugger... She's not getting too many lessons from the right people...

Ronda Rousey (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/ronda-rousey) vs. Liz Carmouche (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/liz-carmouche) - for women's bantamweight title
Unfortunately I do not see Ronda losing to Liz ..
Dan Henderson (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/dan-henderson) vs. Lyoto Machida (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/lyoto-machida)
Normally I would pick Machida. His style is too uncomfortable for slow Hendo, but Hendo had a t-shirt with a sight BELIEVE IN HENDO .... so you know
Urijah Faber (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/urijah-faber) vs. Ivan Menjivar (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/ivan-menjivar)
Faber might be going down and this is important fight for him to still be there in contension.
Court McGee (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/court-mcgee) vs. Josh Neer (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/josh-neer)
Josh Koscheck (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/josh-koscheck) vs. Robbie Lawler (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/robbie-lawler)
PRELIMINARY (FX, 8 p.m. ET)
Lavar Johnson (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/lavar-johnson) vs. Brendan Schaub (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/brendan-schaub) - Lavar prob will demolish Schaub or Schaub will try hard for takedown and make it an ugly fight.....

Dana really has become the Don King of MMA. All he cares about is building up a star, using them up and spitting them out when he’s done. Ronda will be around until she hits that first losing streak and that will be that. The question is can the women’s division become popular in general with more girls coming in? Ronda can’t and won’t carry this on her own...

Ronda Rousey vs. Liz Carmouche - Ronda is too big and strong, another 1st round sub. I do appreciate Carmouche's ability/heart tho, she deserves to be in there.
Dan Henderson vs. Lyoto Machida - Hendo, but I wouldn't be surprised if Lyoto wins via front kick KO in the 3rd
Urijah Faber vs. Ivan Menjivar
Court McGee vs. Josh Neer
Josh Koscheck vs. Robbie Lawler

Well I take back what I said about Ronda/Liz being the Main event... Good fight, Liz really brought it... Ronda made some bad technical mistakes that almost cost her one but she is so athletic and talented she got through it. She and Miesha Tate is a good rematch if the Cyborg fight is still a no go...
Hendo Machida was a fuckin crapfest. Nobody really did much of anything... I don't know who won, nor do I have the desire to watch that bore fest again. There went Hendo's last chance at Jones and the UFC strap...

Hendo got robbed, so I guess this means that going forward and being aggressive isn't what scores anymore.
Say what you want about women's MMA in general, but Rousey fights are exciting because you know exactly what she is trying to do and you're anxious to see if the opponent can nuetralize it. Carmouche fought great too!

As a Hendo fan, I was sorely disappointed in that fight. Hendo's fear of Machida's counterstrike essentially neutrtilized him. However, if it wasn't for that one takedown in the first round, I think that Hendo wins that fight by decision. Also, this should've been the 5 round fight - I thought it was basically a tie after those rounds and 2 more could've opened it up.
Faber I think wind submission of the night -that was epic. And Carmouche showed some guts against Rousey tonight - that was a very entertaining 5 minutes.

Sherdog.com (http://fantasy.sherdog.com/) has a really good pick'em/fantasy set-up. You can create "pools" which are basically fantasy leagues - you pick the winner, the method, and the round for each fight. It keeps track of your stats against everyone else in your group - it's pretty sweet.
I'm in a a couple of different pools - a reddit one and one with a few college friends - and it's a lot of fun.

http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/Womens-Champion-Ronda-Rousey-Survives-Scare-Armbars-Liz-Carmouche-in-UFC-157-Headliner-50355
Liz Carmouche very nearly shocked the world.
Carmouche put Ultimate Fighting Championship women’s bantamweight titleholder Ronda Rousey in serious trouble for the first time in her career before succumbing to what most viewed as inevitable: a first-round armbar in the historic UFC 157 headliner on Saturday at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. Rousey (7-0, 1-0 UFC) elicited the tapout 4:49 into round one, bringing a decisive close to the first women’s bout in UFC history.
“Is this real life right now?” Rousey asked. “I’m not sure.”
Her latest triumph was easily her most difficult.
Carmouche (8-3, 0-1 UFC) capitalized on the judoka’s trademark aggression, moved to her back a little more than a minute into the fight and went to work on a submission of her own, first a standing rear-naked choke and then a neck crank. Rousey was in visible distress but fought through the pain and panic to free herself from Carmouche’s clutches.
The 26-year-old Olympic bronze medalist powered into top position and methodically softened Carmouche for her patented maneuver. The challenger tried desperately to escape, but Rousey was relentless in her pursuit of the finish and finally isolated the arm after an extended struggle.
“That’s one thing I’ve had to learn in MMA is to take my time, because in judo, I only have a few seconds,” Rousey said. “I was just trying to do it perfectly on the first try.”
Machida Dodges, Outpoints Henderson
In the co-main event, one-time light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida kept Dan Henderson at arm’s reach, peppered him with well-placed strikes and settled for a split decision. All three judges scored it 29-28, two of them for Machida (19-3, 11-3 UFC), who has won three of his last four fights.
Henderson (29-9, 6-3 UFC) never found a home for his fabled right hand. Machida delivered a surprising trip takedown late in the first round, cracked the former two-division Pride Fighting Championships titleholder with knees and kicks in the second and survived a takedown from Henderson in the third. The 42-year-old Team Quest veteran tried for 15 minutes to close the distance on Machida but was oftentimes left swinging at air against the elusive karateka.
“He is a very tough fighter,” Machida said. “He’s a great opponent for me, and I have a lot of respect for him. My strategy tonight was to keep it standing up, and I think I did it.”
Faber Choke Submits Menjivar
Former World Extreme Cagefighting champion Urijah Faber became the first man to submit Ivan Menjivar in more than a decade, as he coaxed a tapout from the Tristar Gym export with a standing rear-naked choke 4:34 into the first round of their bantamweight battle.
Faber (27-6, 3-2 UFC) attacked with vicious elbows from inside the Menjivar (25-10, 4-3 UFC) guard, softening him with a relentless volley of ground-and-pound. As the El Savador native scrambled to his feet, Faber transitioned to his back, trapped him in a restrictive body triangle and cinched the choke for the finish.
“Ivan is a very crafty veteran, and he’s a pioneer in this sport,” Faber said. “To get a submission like that, I just attacked the neck. He had to honor that. He let me hold on too long, and that was the end. I made some adjustments, and I’m going to make more.”
Volume Striking Carries McGee
“The Ultimate Fighter” Season 11 winner Court McGee enjoyed a successful maiden voyage at 170 pounds, as the former middleweight cruised to a unanimous verdict over Josh Neer. All three cageside judges struck the same decision: 30-27 in favor of McGee (15-3, 4-2 UFC).
McGee overwhelmed the Pat Miletich protégé with a high-volume striking attack, mixing kicks to the legs and body with punches to the head. He almost finished it late in the first round, where he blasted “The Dentist” with a crippling left hook to the body and swarmed with punches on the ground. The notoriously durable Neer (33-13-1, 6-9 UFC) weathered the assault and mounted a brief comeback in round two, but he did not have enough in the tank to turn the tide completely.
McGee delivered a pair of takedowns in the third round, punctuating his first victory since September 2011.
Returning Lawler Stops Koscheck
Former EliteXC champion Robbie Lawler stopped Josh Koscheck with thudding first-round ground-and-pound in a welterweight showcase. In his first Octagon appearance since October 2004, Lawler (20-9, 5-3 UFC) sealed the deal 3:57 into round one.
Koscheck (17-7, 15-7 UFC) struck for a pair of takedowns but failed to keep his heavy-handed adversary corralled. The 30-year-old Lawler sprawled out of a takedown, blasted Koscheck with a left hand and polished him off with a series of right hands on the ground.
“I was raining down hard shots, and he was going to take a beating,” Lawler said. “He wasn’t coming back.”

Ronda is eating 1 meal a day WTF? Weight cut for her can't be that brutal.. Most fighters eat 6 or so small meals a day.. She is working out on an empty stomach that is a terrible way to train..
I'm going to send Ronda a tweet and let her know that her world-class nutritionist is a fucking retard and that dbreiden from Spurstalk knows what the fuck is going on. When she hires you, bro, you better get me some free tickets.
Josh Koscheck v. Robbie Lawler - I'll probably regret this pick, but I'm with TroutBum on it. I just can't give myself any reason to root for Koscheck.

The Koscheck stoppage was not a bad call. He probably could have continued the fight but he wasn't defending himself anymore, that's automatic stoppage. Nice to see Lawler back in the UFC.
The Henderson/Machida fight was probably one of the worst fights I've ever seen. Thank GOD I didn't have to watch 2 more rounds of that.
I see Ronda continue to pop arms like chicken legs for the foreseeable future. The girl has been doing armbars non-stop since she's 10. Everybody knows she's going to do it, she dares you to counter it and nobody can. That's also why her fights have gone from 30 secs to 4 minutes long: better opposition of course, and half of those girls' training are to counter the armbar. Yet they just can't do it.
The reality is that their window of action is actually very short before the armbar inevitably comes. Maybe Cyborg could pull it off but we all know that fight will never happen.
Rousey is a PR gem. She's a great story, she's hot, of course the medias are jumping on her. That's why Dana made her the headline. She's a great opportunity to legitimate and expand the brand way beyond it's current status. Why wouldn't he exploit that to the bone?
