The key fallacy of so-called gun control laws is that such laws do not in fact control guns. They simply disarm law-abiding citizens, while people bent on violence find firearms readily available.
When it comes to the rate of gun ownership, that is higher in rural areas than in urban areas, but the murder rate is higher in urban areas. The rate of gun ownership is higher among whites than among blacks, but the murder rate is higher among blacks. For the country as a whole, hand gun ownership doubled in the late 20th century, while the murder rate went down.
if you look back through history, you will find that Britain has had a lower murder rate than the United States for more than two centuries-- and, for most of that time, the British had no more stringent gun control laws than the United States. Indeed, neither country had stringent gun control for most of that time.

"firearms readily available."
why that?
simply because the NRA/guns-and-ammo industry has for 35 years pumped up their profit margins by gutting firearm/ammo regulations and intimidating politicians.
so now the firearm industry gets to sell another 300M guns and $10Bs in profits.
It's all about corporate profits, not about 2nd amendment or self-defense.
American life and civilization degenerates further as the corporations stuff their pockets and "confiscate" the suckers' money.

so having 285 million guns in circulation.. is a good thing... better yet let's continue to increase the number of guns... no harm in that.

I absolutely agree that more law abiding citizens should buy and carry weapons.
Good job stating an arbitrary "fact" that was a big part of his article.

That article and the "understanding" paper it points to are WAY TOO COMPLEX for the right-wing fucktards to follow. Much simpler for them is to swallow the gun industry corporate sucker line that "(buy our) guns for everyone and everywhere solves everything".

homophones are tricky; it is said spelling and dictionaries became regular in English speaking countries about the same time, not too too long ago.
whatever one thinks good spelling or bad confers on the speaker, misspelled words seldom lead to any great misunderstanding -- those not taking SnC to mean Thomas Sowell quickly found Sowell if they checked -- but they do provide a balcony from which to jeer, for those so inclined.
apart from the obvious legal, military and economic necessities of correct spelling, what desirables are served, if any? spelling is artificial and arbitrary, good or bad proficiency scarcely correlates with anything beyond the mere in/ability, FWIW, to spell.

And it's tough to see it as a homophone issue when you're talking about printed material where the word is clearly featured in red on the top of the page..

England banned guns 1920 following WW1. Saying that we had a higher murder rate in 1880 doesn't posit much. I can explain why if you need be. Think of movies involving the sons of Sheen.
The rest of the statistics have been discussed ad nauseum in the other threads and your spamming every NRA type on the board is indicative of how scared the current rhetoric has you.

Gleason disliked rehearsing. With a photographic memory (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photographic_memory)[53] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackie_Gleason#cite_note-53) he read the script once, watched a rehearsal with his co-stars and stand-in, and shot the show later that day. Yeah those hotbeds of Confederacy like the District of Columbia and California really represent.
"In 2011, the highest gun homicide rate (per 100,000 residents) in the nation was, ironically, in the city where the nation’s gun control control laws are decided: Washington, D.C. The rate there was 12.4 (actually down from 2010). A close second was Louisiana, with a rate of 10, followed by Mississippi, with 7.4. California, the most populous state, has some of the strictest gun control laws in the country as well as the greatest number of overall homicides (1,790) and the most gun-related murders (1,220). In 2011, the state had a gun homicide rate of 3.25 (per 100,000 residents)."

Way WH23 plays D: I one time scored an offensive player in the back of the net and got away with it. He was crowding my goalie, so I shouldered him off and walked him into the back of the net.
Yeah, WH, just walk him into the back of the net, my goalie said.
Totally illegal. You can't play defense past the goal line. I didn't know, but apparently, the refs never call that, or at least, didn't that time. I scored a player in the back of my own goal. Never saw that before or since.

He doesn't know either. As assault rifle is fully automatic. Assault weapons are different.
How about this: When the President no longer has guns protecting him, when his body guards no longer use assault rifles, semi-autos and all that, he can have a leg to stand on. That's when it will be safe enough to not actually need a gun. If the President needs that kind of protection, why don't we get at least some?

And it disarms criminals as well? Fuck yeah! I'm all about disarming criminals, where do we start?!?! Lets first make them register everything, then we can track them. Next, let's limit their ammo capacity, that way they have to take two seconds to drop a mag and reload. After that, no collapsible stock! I hate the look of a gun -1" shorter than a 16". Evil feature!!! Flash hider?!?! Evil feature!!!! You all on the left have to agree with how silly your gun control laws have played out no?
Seriously, explain to me how further gun (as in tool) restrictions would be of any benefit to society. And I'm not talking about ease if getting a gun as I also believe background checks/process of obtaining a gun should be heavily regulated.
Convince me that regulating law abiding citizens would do anything to deter crime.

The less insecure posters can just accept it and go on with the rest of their argument, since the flaw usually isn't fatal to it. Others see what they did wrong, but get so worried about what they think are their e-reps that they will do anything to avoid discussing it. That's usually when they try to change the subject to me.
