Amare Stoudemire might be nearing a return to the court with the New York Knicks, but his team might not actually be looking forward to it all that much.
The Knicks have jumped out to the best record in the Eastern Conference without Stoudemire this season, and are now discussing him coming off the bench for the team despite his lucrative contract. What’s more, the team aggressively explored trading away (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/21/sports/basketball/stoudemire-savior-of-knicks-now-presents-only-problems.html?_r=3&adxnnl=1&smid=tw-share&adxnnlx=1356102146-UVin9h3rIeXqnliLQJx0JA&) the forward this offseason.

“This past summer, the Knicks offered Stoudemire to nearly every team in the league,” Howard Beck writes in the New York Times. The team made the 30-year old forward “available for free,” according to a rival executive, but were unable to find any takers thanks to concerns about Stoudemire’s health, production and huge contract.

According to Beck, New York explored a trade with Toronto for Andrea Bargnani, but had the deal vetoed by owner James Dolan before it reached the Raptors. There were also discussions of sending Tyson Chandler and Stoudemire to the Magic for Dwight Howard before the All-Star center was shipped to Los Angeles.

Stoudemire has three years and $65 million remaining on his contract. He averaged 17.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game last season with the Knicks, but the team is under .500 when both he and Carmelo Anthony play together for New York.

suns fans must be giggling somewhere imho. amare has no legit fundamentals and he just benefited from playing with steve nash, like JJ and many else who also got big stats playing for suns during that time and big contracts as a result. dude just a glorified version of stromile swift tbh

It was stupid to give Amare the contract he has. It was even more stupid for the Knicks to blow their amnesty clause on Billups (one year left on his contract, trade asset, still a decent player) rather then keep it as insurance for their notoriously injury-prone altheticism-dependent center with a $100 million contract. Seriously, what is wrong with this organization?

Amare came to prominence when Marbury still run the show. He's talented, only that the Knicks just have better players at 4/5. Amare was supposed to be the PF, but the Knicks are much better with Carmelo at 4.

Don't forget his contract is uninsured. He's basically a huge walking financial liability.

NY has abundant money so they can piss it away for fun like they used to do during marbury epoch, and they don't have no problem keeping him on roster as long as he doesn't hurt the team's chemistry. teams who laugh at NY's bad contracts are just jealous of their wealth imho

Disagree - Amare was a badass player back when Marbury was his point guard. He's just finished after the knee problems.

The Suns haven't made the playoffs since deciding to let Amare leave.....I don't think they should be laughing at all.
