LeBron James has finally put to rest the possibility of participating in the Slam Dunk Contest.

"It's over with," said James. "I'm getting too old for that. ... There were times when I wanted to do it. But I came into All-Star Weekend a few times banged up and I didn't want to risk further injury."

James won the 2003 McDonald's All-American Game dunk contest.

It'd definitely hurt his ego. He'd go on to lose to Bible again, but in the ECF this time.

I do think it was ego and probably knowing his strengths ...dunk creativity is not his strong suit and in the grand scheme of things pretty meaningless. I dont hold it much against him but I do think he could of breathed some life in to it and it would of been "good for the game." But he is getting too old for it but I think Mj won his lat one around this age ...Nique I think was older ...but those are two of the greatest dunkers of all-time ... he is not. (But he is probably a greater player than Nique and may surpass Jordan) Only issue I had is he kept saying he would do it "next year" then backed out ...

ohh here's a play by play of the importance of meaningless :lol

Two videographers recorded a pickup game in which Xavier (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/clubhouse?teamId=2752)'s Jordan Crawford dunked on James.
Gary Parrish reported on CBSSports.com that a Nike representative confiscated tapes of the dunk after conferring with James.
He said the tapes were confiscated because videotaping of after-hours pickup games at the camp is not allowed.
Ryan Miller, who videotaped the dunk had his tape confiscated, detailed the events to CBSSports.com.
"[Nike Basketball senior director Lynn Merritt] just said, 'We have to take your tape,' " Miller said. "They took it from other guys, too."
Miller said he had been filming all day and had his tapes confiscated only after Crawford's dunk over James.
"LeBron called Lynn over and told him something," Miller told CBSSports.com. "That's how I knew his name was Lynn. LeBron said, 'Hey, Lynn. Come here.' "
Minutes later, Miller said Merritt demanded his tape.
A spokesman for James said he had no comment.
