This something that a lot of people are debating right now off the third title. I say that he is the best of his generation now that he has claimed the 3rd title. The Main guy everyone always beats their chest about Shaq and if you ask me there is no comparison. Duncan at 29 has equaled Shaq's title total at 3 and he has done it with far less talent around him. D-Rob was very good in 99 and just role player in 03 not at his peak for either title run, as good as Manu is he is no Kobe, Duncan has not nor will he ever have that kind of running mate. Shaq to me despite his media hype is one of the more overated players of all time, i know he is great and dominant, but he never won a title until Kobe became great and Phil became his coach. Shaq has always needed a lot of help to succeed. Duncan has been the best most consistant player in the league for 8 years and the best may still be to come, the media may never give him his just due, but i see him as not only the best of his generation but one of the best ever.

I happen to think that Shaq is the mot ovverated player in all of sports history. If Shaq didn't weigh as he does, and wasn't allowed to elbow and bouldouzer over any defenders as he doesm I wonder what his stats wouild look like. He is lazy on defense and has no outside game to speak of. He can be a cancer on the locker room and doesn't get himself into shape for the beginning of the season.

Behind Michael, Tim is the greatest player of all time.

Tim is no Magic, Michael, or Larry yet. I'd probably take him over Shaq or Olajuwon though, and definitely over Russell. Probably not over Wilt and definitely not Kareem.

Duncan has obviously been better than Shaq for a few years now but they both are dominant players. Duncan isn't quite as dominant offensively but is clearly better in all the other categories. I think he is the best player right now even though Nash got it. Stoudemire is a heck of a player to have and that is why Nash was so good.

Without the "Tim Has never won a title without David" take, I'd have to say at this time, Tim is the best in real crunch time stats, no doubt.

Since Mike, no player has been better or as good.

Here are the Top 3 players after 1990 after Mike:

1. Tim

2. Shaq

3. Hakeem

The thing I admire so much about Duncan is that he doesn't need to elbow or bulldoze his way past players to be a dominant player. He is so much more skillful than Shaq and his free throws have an arc. I'll agree that since Jordan's second retirement in 1998, the most consistent player I've seen in the NBA has been Tim Duncan.

Agreed Amare is a heck of player, but saying Nash was good because of him is just dumb. In fact, it's the other way round.

Too early to tell (though I would like to think so). We'll know when his career closes (and may the Lord let that be a long time from now).

it is a clip from chapelle show, the clips that did not make it. That one was from a skit called a gay world, basically what would it be like if they had a straight world and a gay world. that was the gay lawn guy.

I agree 110%. And I am still trying to figure out how everyone doesn't realize that he is so "dominant" cuz of his damn size. Only positive thing I wll give Shaq...he does have great feetwork for a guy his size (Maybe he should go on the show, "Dancing with the Stars.")

Malone and Garnett and Shaq before Duncan? 3 Rings vs 0. 3 MVP Finals vs. 0. I give up, you are definitely a troll. :rolleyes

A different opinion than you doesn't mean he's a troll.

I hate to say it, but a lot of people here seem to be seeing things through their black and silver glasses.

Tim's amazing. NO doubt about that. As a Piston fan, I found out just how dominate he can be, while not being loud about it. I would sit there in this last series and say "damn, Tim's been quiet", and you turn around and look at the stats, and he's sitting at 25 and 10.

I'm in agreement with you that I put Duncan over Malone, but it's hard to compare the 'best' when you say the Big Ticket (that would be KG) and Duncan. They're two different players. Thats like asking..

.."what would you rather have? 1000 one-dollar bills, or or 20 fifty-dollar bills?"

They're both great to have. They both get you big numbers. But, that's where the similarities end.

Personally, I'd take Duncan over KG because I think he provides you leadership. Not because he's got 3 MVPs to KG's 0. I think you have to agree that Tim's had a much.. MUCH better lineup around him than Garnett ever has.

Are you sure? Why would Duncan even be top 5?
Shouldn't it be:
Shaq
Olajuwon
Malone
Garnett
Bowen
Manu
Parker
Yinka Dare
Duncan?

Are Malone and Hakeem really part of the Duncan-Garnett generation? They peaked when Duncan and KG were just starting out. As far as this list goes, I say this.

1. Shaq (been to more finals than Duncan and same # of rings)
2. Duncan
3. KG (simply because he never even made it to the Finals)

I think San Antonio has great chemistry and that is a big part of why Duncan is so effective because he is not over athletic and he doesn't overpower players so you got to give credit to unselfish passing from his teammates. He couldn't accomplish in the Olympics with those players but with a great coach and a great passing team Duncan has overachieved.

Who was the last dominant player to win titles for the same team with two entirely different sets of teamates? Bill Russel maybe?

KG? :lol

To answer the question Tim Duncan is the best in his generation, the only other PF's to be listed with him are Dirk and KG. Timmy's career stats are higher except for points against Dirk and asissts against KG. Also, Timmy has acheived more than they will ever and will still probably continue winning titles.
