Loyola sophomore guard Pierre Parker has earned a roster spot on the French U20 National team that begins play in the European Championship on July 8 versus Slovenia in Chekov, Russia. Parker, a 6-foot-3-inch alum of Lisle High School, is a younger brother of San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker. His father, Tony Sr., played for Loyola and in France professionally.

CHICAGO - Loyola University Chicago sophomore guard Pierre Parker has earned a roster spot on the French U20 National Team that begins play in the European Championship on July 8 versus Slovenia in Chekov, Russia.

Parker, a 6-foot-3 product of Lisle High School, averaged 3.2 ppg and 2.1 rpg in 29 appearances as a freshman for the Ramblers. The younger brother of San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker Jr., Pierre made five starts in 2004-05 and scored a season-high 12 points and snagged six rebounds against Illinois State in his first career starting assignment. His father, Tony Parker Sr., ranks as Loyola's seventh all-time leading scorer with 1,605 points, and enjoyed a standout professional career in France.

With the U20 French National Team, Parker's squad will also compete in pool play against Russia (July 9) and Croatia (July 10).

Actually, that's tj on the far left. Pierre is on the far right. BTW I don't think he's 6'3. Tony is listed as 6'2 and looks a hair taller, but who's measuring. :fro

I know, I edited my post :p Sorry, it's still a tad too early for me lol If they stood on stable ground (not that bumpy grass) we could probably tell how taller he is than Tony. He's only 19 I believe... could keep growing.

Good for him, he didn't seem like he was ready for the NBA anyway. I honestly like the new provisions that say a player can't be drafted until a year after college.

I heard there was some discrepancy on whether he actually signed with Tony's agent or not. So I don't really know. One article I read said that he did sign with Tony's agent so wasn't eligible to go back to school and would be playing in France. Another one said he was going back to school and didn't sign with Fleischer.

In March, Parker said he wanted to play professionally, but he never hired an agent.

Former Northwestern point guard T.J. Parker withdrew from the upcoming NBA draft due to injury Wednesday. Parker said he now will pursue a professional basketball career in Europe and re-enter the draft next year.

Because he withdrew from NU over Spring Break and hired agent Marc Fleisher, Parker is ineligible to return to NU for his senior season.
