They are also #6 in FT% (79%) which is unheard of for a Spurs team.

Some encouraging signs defensively are the Spurs are back in the top 10 in Opp FG% (#9 .439), #4 in Effective Opp FG% and #2 in Opp 3 Pt % .326.

If there's any statistic that encourages me, it is by far the Spurs' league leading point differential of +9.06, despite a Strength of Schedule of .523 (5th). No other team in the NBA is in the top 5 in both categories.


And though it's easy to argue that the same was true last season, I believe this year will be different because of defense. Last year, the Spurs' were 10th in defensive efficiency. This year, their 98.3 points per 100 possessions ranks 5th. For the first time since 2007, the Spurs have both an elite offense and defense. And we all know what happened that year.
