I just watched this on Netflix. It's pretty interesting.

IMDB link: Ayn Rand & the Prophecy of Atlas Shrugged (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1989454/)

Please don't dismiss it off hand. If you don't watch it, please don't reply.

imdb synopsis:

"Upon publication, Atlas Shrugged was widely scorned by critics for its preposterous plot and one-dimensional characters. Intellectuals and academics (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1989454/synopsis#) from across the ideological spectrum roundly dismissed the new and original philosophy called Objectivism that Rand so compellingly illustrated in the novel."

and that has continued in the recent increase in interest. AR is pure garbage, a fraud, and hypcrit (living off "socialistic" SS) and profoundly anti-Christian, not that many right-wing "Christians" GAF, because they love the OT and ignore the NT.'

Before people go ruining their Netflix recommendation algorithm ("because you watched Ayn Rand, you might like: The Prophesies of L. Ron Hubbard, Ancient Aliens, and Triumph of the Will!"), the least you could do is explain what you found so compelling. Without that, I can only wonder why I'd bother watching a documentary so objective (pun!) its title elevates a clumsy novel pushing an even clumsier ideology to the level of prophesy?

Funny thing is the hard copy book itself is the #2 seller world wide, behind the Bible.

People who who by others people's ratings are lemmings.

I would think the documentary I linked would have appear in it for all. Just criticizing it without seeing it is foolish.

Have that on your mind now? Can't shake it?

I wasn't talking about the movie Atlas Shrugged, but the documentary surrounding it's writer and writing. She made a book that has more sales of any other hard copy book excluding the Bible. At the time, everyone scorned her for what she wrote. All bad reviews, never a good review, yet it was a best seller then, and is the all time best seller of the last several hundred years.

What does that say about people trying to control others. Telling you it's a bad read? Why do they say that?

I watched the first installment of Atlas Shrugged when it came out 2 years ago. Part 2 will be on DVD in February. I'm sure the movie does not compare to the book, but it is pretty thought provoking just the same.

I have not read the book, but maybe I will find the time. Especially after seeing this documentary.

What if 59.2% of those rating it gave it a 7 or higher?

I had the pleasure of reading the source material as a lad -- her two novels in high school and a collection of her "serious" writings titled Philosophy -- Who Needs It? I actually recommend that last book to friends, but mostly because it's a precis of her fundamental absurdity (check out her awesome take on oil spills) and rhetorical tactics.

I admit I do like the Gary Cooper flick for its post-war idealism... maybe I'll watch that instead since you haven't explained why watching a documentary whose title betrays the journalistic rigor of Tiger Beat magazine is worth watching.

It was a piece of shit.

I'm just going to assume this one is a piece of shit too.

On one hand, if you rely on other people's opinions you're a lemming

On the other, this flick is supposed to be good because the book its based on allegedly sold a lot of copies

Jusus,,,

I watched the documentary. I think it's good, else I wouldn't have started the thread. Part of what it tells us is Rand's disappointment is how the US is doing the same wrong things that the country she left was doing. She was born in the USSR.

Not before the Koran or China's red book it's not. The Rayn Institute gives away 400k books every year so I think your figures are at best misguided. It doesn't count as a sale if you give them away.
