The Toronto Raptors are amongst the teams interested in trading for Rudy Gay should the Memphis Grizzlies decide to trade him, according to sources.
The Raptors have had preliminary talks with the Grizzlies.
Toronto is said to be offering a package centered around Jose Calderon, Ed Davis and future picks for Gay.
The Grizzlies are exploring trade scenarios for Gay, but have not yet determined if they will absolutely move him before the February deadline.
The Raptors tried to trade for Gay in June, even offering a package including their eighth overall pick that became Terrence Ross.

DeRozan and Gay would be nice but damn Toronto is just adding to their messy roster of chuckers and poor defenders...Thoughts?

Why the hell do the Grizzlies want to get worse when they're a legit playoff contender? I don't get it.

Calderon would automatically be their best 3 point shooter. And a Randolph/Gasol/Davis frontline scares me more than Gay chucking them out of a game.

If the Raptors do that, then they are seriously retarded

You want to get rid of Calderon and Ed Davis instead of Bargnana ?

Colangelo :lmao

Why do they need Gay if they have DeRozen and just drafted Ross who is gonna be a stud

It's not worth wasting time to ask yourself all the 'why' questions regarding the Raptors FO moves. They just do their shit for some reason. Like asking yourself why they paid Landry Fields a ridiculous sum of money when having DeRozen and drafting Ross. They just do.

raptors will package bargnani in any deal involving calderon imho. grizzlies are shopping him around and they should be prepared to sell him at a big discount, and maybe need to add some picks to spice up their offer instead of receiving any picks

Looks like they're trying again. http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8891818/rudy-gay-subject-active-trade-discussions-toronto-raptors-memphis-grizzlies-sources

I can't see them having anything Memphis wants. They should be able to stitch together a multi-team deal, though. They have a lot of little parts that can be attractive to other teams.

:lol Colangelo trying to make a move that could potentially get the Raptors the 8th seed or even just a late playoff push to save his job..it would probably be a successful plan too, knowing Toronto's ownership and their undying love for him..

Why would they consider trading Lowry? Stupid.

Why would they consider trading Lowry? Stupid.

What sucks is that they traded a lottery pick to get him. Normally it's a good deal to get a known quality that's reasonably young at the expense on an unknown, but Toronto has quietly drafted well for the past few years. There's no way they can expect to get the same return for Lowery now from a team like Boston. Perhaps they can pry Kanter from Utah.

Then they have no PG? They just going to roll with Calderon forever?

He hasn't been that bad, actually. Lowery can't seem to stay on the court. If they are serious about moving him, then getting a former lottery pick (or two if they get Burks too) is a pretty good deal. They should keep him, though. Moving someone for whom you gave up so much just a year prior is pretty much grounds for a GM getting canned in my book.

EDIT: Maybe a deal like this: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=av4h7rb

I don't even think there would be picks exchanged, but if there were, they'd probably come from Utah.

Calderon has been solid, but he is what he is. He's aging, a terrible defender and even with his solid play, the Raptors are better offensively with Lowry on the court. Lowry, outside of that one injury, has been fine. He was playing phenom ball before he got hurt, and because TOR starting losing at a lesser pace when Lowry went down (just so happens Bargnani went down too and it freed up time for Amir/Davis) they stuck with Calderon. Make no mistake, Lowry is a superior player to Calderon and at his price it would be foolish to trade him IMO.

Isn't Lowery still out with an injury? ESPN said back spasms are why he didn't play tonight. I don't think that's the type of injury you just blow off.
