Got a new Ultrabook

I got it for 529. No idea why it was so cheap but I jumped on the deal. Its pretty nice but I'm not really enjoying Windows 8 so far.

I'm really behind the times. I bought my computer because it was a professional computer with XP Pro, and no BS trialware. It came with windows 7 pro license and disks. Never installed it. Still on XP pro.

W7 is the moment that Microsoft really stepped into the sun. It's a fantastic operating system. I just put together a new rig though and had an old version of Vista (ha!) laying around, so I upgraded for $40. No regrets.

My father doesn't like the changes in direct file access. I am happy with the stability of XP. Maybe once the computers at work use 7 or 8, I will be able to see if I like them. As far as I know, not many businesses have stepped past XP.

XP is stable but has horrible memory management compared to 7/8. Even Vista is better if you have sufficient RAM.

Honestly, Win8 is worth it for the task manager alone.

I was just playing around with it and I really like being able to disable startup services right from there. Now that I found a quick way to restart I'm not minding it. I cleaned up my start screen. Doesn't really seem to be a huge change for PC users but I can totally see how the touchscreen interfaces are utilized. Still glad I managed to get a laptop without a touchscreen as I don't see it as a necessity at all.

I don't want to rebind it. I love having the function keys reversed. Pretty much the only things I ever used where alt f4 and f5 to refresh but I use the other laptop specific functions way more (volume, screen brightness, speakers/wifi on off, screen off)

question - has Intel been successful pushing Ultrabooks for the last year or no? Doesn't exactly seem like they are catching on, but PC sales are just down across the board (for the most part).
