View Full Version : IF the Broncos don't make the super bowl, what does it do to Mannings legacy?

I've heard all year long how the AFC is very weak this year as there are really only 2 legit teams(Den, NE) and one is very flawed.

If Peyton loses he would tie favre for most career playoff losses

Considering he only made the Super Bowl twice in 13 seasons in Indianapolis, going 0-1 in Denver isn't so bad by comparison. Peyton's already had a good enough season... he might even win the MVP. This is the first year on a new team though. I think he'll be even better next year. Ok maybe not "better" just more polished with his receivers.

His legacy as the most epic playoff choke artist in history is still intact, tbh.... something about actually having to play good teams in the playoffs makes Peyton turn into a combo of Philbilly Rivers and Romochoke :lol

:lolweren't you speaking highly of Manning before, comparing him to CP3?
some of these playoff losses weren't all about Manning, shit his defense let your Billy Volek fuck them up. but the record is what it is, and it will haunt Manning.

He's a great REGULAR SEASON quarterback, but it is now abundantly clear that he is a choke artist in the playoffs :lol

I could see them drafting a Gronk-like tight-end in April.

Didn't Skip Bayless say something like that and people were dogging him out for it?

35-28 with 38 seconds left and (no timeouts for Baltimore? with 70 yards to go) and your defensive back lets his man get behind him AND fails to tackle him.
Yeah that's Manning chokeage. :rolleyes

He can't play defensive back too. Neither can Brady, Kaep, or Joe Freakin Montana/John Elway combined.
Manning may have had some suck playoff games. This one he had his team with the W, the db handed it back to Balti.

No, but audibling into useless run plays because you can't even throw the ball anymore is Manning chokeage.... throwing the game-losing INT is Manning chokeage.... getting absolutely outclassed by Joe Flacco when you're supposed to be the new G.O.A.T. quarterback is Manning chokeage....

he didn't try a single long pass, he got intercepted twice (including the game sealing one) and also fumbled once, if that isn't a choke, i don't know what it is..

Should have never gone to OT.
As to double OT, while Manning admits it was a sucky decision and throw, to expect to milk 2 OTs out of your 38 year old QB was too much.

Again, bad throw? Absolute. Should have been a Denver win in reg and OT never happening? Also absolute.
"Absolutely outclassed" by Flacco? :lol That's funny.

If I were Manning, I would ask Kobe for advice on how to handle ruining your legacy by losing with a stacked team tbh.

funny thing is Manning's last playoff game with the Colts was very similar. He moved the ball, wasn't able to get a touchdown but close enough for Viniatieri (that would be considered clutch for Brady). They had the lead with :56 remaining. Yet the Colts D and Caldwell make some mistakes and Jets pull off the victory.

This loss from Baltimore was even worse. To have one minute left and a 7 point lead, that's usually game. Broncos secondary was getting exposed all game, and their pass rush on Ravens was almost non existent. Manning deserves all the blame for that OT INT, his arm isn't what it used to be after the nerve damage and it may never be again. But he should've known better.

Don't worry he'll still collect his 5th MVP, because reasons.

Difficult question, to be honest. We all agree he's the best regular season QB ever, but QB's are usually measured by what they do in the playoffs...but that basis for judgment is also flawed. Mark Sanchez has a 4-2 playoff record (all on the road) and Joe Flacco already has 7 or 8 playoff wins--ho should they be judged? Peyton has a ring though, so he'll get a pass for a lot of his failures--much like Brett Favre did. Imagine how different both Favre and Manning would be viewed that they not won a SB? Yeah, he beat Rex Grossman, but he conquered his demon and longtime nemesis in the AFCCG that year--so his SB ring is validated, imo. Felt the same way about Steve Young too--seemed like he could never escape Montana's shadow but he finally made it happen in 1994 by beating Dallas in the NFCCG. The SB was an afterthought after that game. It hurts his GOAT status, but other than that his legacy is still pretty damn good.

I just realized....IF flacco wins it all this year, he will have tied Peyton in career playoff wins AND Super Bowl wins...

At this point Peyton is more comparable to Favre than Brady, tbh.

Peyton is a great regular season QB, and a below average postseason QB. For that reason, he should not be in the conversation of GOAT. Peyton now has a career playoff record of 9-11, and his most 2 recent playoff games included critical interceptions which killed his team. Peyton also had the team with the deepest talent in the AFC this year (Broncos), yet still came up short. So you can forget about the "but his teams weren't talented" bs argument. If Brady rings for the 4th time in a couple weeks, that will be the nail in the coffin for Peyton to ever be considered in his class.

I ain't exactly saying his pass in OT was the greatest decision he's ever made, but let's not act like Denver wouldn't be playing this weekend if Rahim Moore didn't take the worst possible angle on Flacco's pass.
