I wonder if Tony's favorite Hendrix song is " You Got Me Floatin'"??? Yes, it's been wonderful watching Los Fakers "fall and burn in the garden green", while Los Spurs let Timmy "take over! Yeah, you know what I'm talkin' about! Yeah, get on with it!"

The At Dallas game kind of worries me, I'm not sure Kawhi is going to play. I heard he cut his knee open last night on a loose nail on the court. Bulls for some reason are garbage at home.

yep... last time the Lakers were sucking Stern allowed the mid-season theft of All-Star Pau Gasol for the rotting corpse of Kwame Brown and the unproven-not yet ripe younger Gasol brother. Marc obviously panned out, but that trade was still largely one-sided given the circumstances that season.

Bottom line, they got Marc Gasol. He is like 5 years younger and appears to have higher ceiling as a true center than Pau as a Center being forced to played PF. That trade gets killed for no reason. I hate Stern as much as the next guy, but that trade can't be included especially when they aren't gonna make the post season and the Griz are going to finish no worse than 5th in the west.
The Lakers moved Vlade for Kobe you can't bash a trade immediately after it happens. Wait a couple of seasons and then go to town.

Piggybacking off of the song reference in the title of this thread, I felt like reworking some lyrics (ala timvp) to a well know song, as a way to express my absolute delight over the troubles our favorite team to hate is having. Hope you guys enjoy.

Life is a funny thing
sometimes, you just want to sing
the Lakers, are a shitty team
that is the new internet meme
Dwight got signed, and the Lakers were pumped
Nash as well, the whole league they thought they'd jumped
but they got burned, burned, burned, the Lakers' pride
that Lakers' pride
Kome is still, shooting like it's 1 on 5
and D'antoni, a clue he can't buy
watch it burn, burn, burn, that Lakers' pride
that Lakers' pride
The sight, of your enemy
eating shit, it sure is sweet
incompetence, is their new norm
a new laughing stock, has been born
Let's all hold hands, and chant it out together
Fuck the Lakers, with a broomstick not a feather
Laugh as it burns, burns, burns, that Lakers' pride
that Lakers' pride
Fuck the Lakers, with a box of rusty hammers
Jump with joy, mediocrity's now their master
Watch it burn, burn, burn, that Lakers' pride
that Lakers' pride
And it burns, burns, burns, that Lakers' pride
That Lakers' pride
That Lakers' pride
That Lakers' pride

I agree they will probably make a later seed, but I read they will be fine come playoffs, what is FINE? TITLE RUN? Fine to me means they are going to make a major run! Some said the Spurs will be fine a few times, them times early exits! What is fine? Thunder round one? Clippers round one? Spurs round one? How is that fine?

There's no guarantee they will make the playoffs unless another team totally collapses. They still have some of their toughest schedule left. They haven't shown the ability to beat any good teams.

Marc Gasol was a last second throw-in to make the numbers work... he wasn't the center piece of that swap, not even the 'sweetner' in the deal. For all intents and purposes Kwame Brown and Pau Gasol were being traded for one another... the fact that Marc Gasol eventually panned out doesn't change the fact that the trade was nothing short of 'grand larceny'. And what made matters worse is that it didn't allow the Grizz to shed any salary (as would have occurred if they had considered Toronto's or Indiana's preliminary propositions - ones that couldn't even be placed on the table given that the Lakers came out of no where to steal the older Gasol brother well before the trade deadline at a time when no one was making deals yet).

Just cause he wasn't the center piece of the deal, is completely irrelevant, he was still apart of the deal. The Grizzlies have a bright future with Marc Gasol, who is only 27. True centers like him can produce at a high clip into their near to mid 30's. With Conley and Gay the can still contend after ZBO is done. Karma's a bitch The Lakers may be forced to take pennies on the dollar because Pau can't fit with the new system.

It's completely relevant. At the time of the trade, he was an unknown quality with very little value. It was a lop-sided trade. Theres no getting over that. Gasol's emergence prevented it from being one of the most lop-sided trades in history, but that's in hindsight.
Phil Jackson must be thanking his lucky stars (yet again). :)

Uh, no. You clearly don't understand how to look at something without applying hindsight to it. Gasol hadn't been picked yet. It was a shitty trade for Memphis. The piece of the trade that homers used to defend it was Javaris Crittenton. THAT'S how bad a trade it was.

Why? He would do a much better job. D'Antoni has no clue what he's doing. Even Mike Brown would do a better job. He would feed the post. D'Antoni doesn't have the athletes or 3pt shooters to implement his offense.

Exactly. Mike D'Antoni caught lightning in a bottle with the Suns. He had five guys who could play 40 minutes a night. Nash and Amare could run the pick and roll, Marion could run on the break and score without plays called for him, Joe Johnson (and later Barbosa) could pass and create his own shot, and Q Richardson (and later Raja Bell) could camp out and hit threes. They didn't have a bench, they didn't play defense, and they couldn't play half court. We all heard his adjustments on the sideline ("let's go, guys"). Everyone but the guy who hired him knew he was going to be a disaster.

Did you read any of my posts? I said that trades can't be looked at in terms of immediate winners or losers. Take the Dwight Howard trade.
What if Howard leaves the Lakers in the off season for Dallas, Houston or his hometown (where his close friends with Josh Smith is ) Atlanta. All of a sudden that move for to trade for Howard becomes worthless because they gave up a 1st rounder and Bynum ( who is currently hurt) to get him. If he returns and plays well and becomes a star player for them going forward that looks like a bad trade for the Lakers
The Magic got Afflalo, Nicholson & 3 1st rounders. Both have played fairly well and what happens if those picks turn in to rotation players or become trade chips for better assets. Better yet since they don't have Howard they are in the lottery where they can trade up or even acquire another lottery pick because they have the flexibility to do so.
The Lakers already drafted Marc Gasol, in the 2007 draft with the 47th pick, so the Grizzlies knew exactly who they were acquiring. Gasol was traded in the following season.
I'm also a Spurs fan if you're wondering, i just hate when people simplify complicated things.

Marc Gasol was an average player in Spain in 2007, and a second rounder.
His value was less than Blair's.
Spurs tried to shop Blair for first rounder and failed.
Much less get a Love in exchange.
It's called business, and the NBA is a business in which the Lakers are supposed to be on top.
No matter what.
Period.

Wasn't Marc playing in the 2nd best league in the world while Blair was playing in a glorified D-League? (the joke known as NCAA Basketball) He was taken in 2007, not sure who you even brought up blair who was in '09. That 2007 draft, was actually pretty good overall.
Hey, remember that time when they got hammered by Detroit in the Finals? and then Shaq, Fischer, Payton, Malone, Foxx & Phil Jackson all left the team the following season and they missed the post season twice? Or the time the Spurs eliminated the 3x champions. Me neither, I guess you're right about the Lakers supposed to win it all because of Stern.

Yes, I read your posts. My mistake about Gasol. The Grizzlies were not trading talent for talent, they were looking to shed Gasol's contract so they could sell the team. That his brother developed into a good player is good for the team, the new owners and the fans, but it makes that no less of a lopsided trade. As you said, I guess we have to agree to disagree about it, but I do see what you're driving at.
