I HOPE they can pull this one off in Dallas, without Tim I doubt it though.

It will be an intense game to be sure. They certainly have reason for revenge against us! I hope that Manu is a bit more Manu, and the team arises to the challenge. It's been exciting seeing Tiago come into his own. If all else fails, spring for about $300, and put that woman in your avatar in a seat near the Mavs bench. Please ask her to wear the same top as in that photo and take deep breaths throughout the game. Now, this has the potential of being a double edged sword, but we might get lucky with her nearer their bench. If you think I'm joking,,,,you're wrong. :wow

Okay, maybe I'm joking a bit...:toast

Honestly, if we're down or up a lot in this game in the 4th, what would be the harm in letting Baynes get some time on the court? No pressure, just run out there, set a few screens, fight for some boards, eyeball him a bit to see what he can do? Although maybe we should save his first appearance for a home game. Still, I'd really like to see the guy get some PT sooner rather than later.

Shaping up to be a classic legend setup for a new player. Highly anticipated, possibly over-hyped and debuting against the Mavs with no Tim? If he plays and has a good game, let the GOAT convo begin.

Pops was dunking all over the place the first time he got extended mins IIRC. I was all on the Pops bandwagon tbh. '09 was a rough year :lol

It was against the Cavs. LeBron was amazing and the game was over in the third quarter. Pops played the whole 4th quarter and went nuts. Kept us from leaving early.

He had 11 points, 6 rebounds, a block and a steal in 12 minutes. Not exactly extended minutes, but that was more impressive than Matt Bonner, who started 60 games.

Pops also had like six or seven FTA in that 12 minutes. Bonner had three attempts in a game ONCE all season.

For some reason, i thought it was against the Raptors. I think Manu's last game of that season might have been against the Raptors so that's why they're sticking out to me.

As memorable as he was, Pops only played in three games for the Spurs. The Cavs game was his shining moment.

:lol Francisco Elson was like a mix of Hakeem Olajuwon and Scottie Pippen in his Spurs debut which, as I'm sure you're hinting, took place against the Mavs in Dallas.

I thought I was wrong after that game. Unfortunately I wasn't :td

If Pop were coaching, I'd bet that he'd play Baynes. Pop loves to just throw new players right into the mix.

With Bud, it's much, much, much less likely unless there is a blowout.

Anyone know if Baynes has even gone through a practice with the team yet?

Samr.
01-25-2013, 06:22 PM
In all likelihood the Australian National Team's system shares some peripheral similarity w the Spurs bc of Brett Brown (similar to Toros vs. Spurs), so there's a good chance Baynes won't look completely lost out there.

I mean he may not be sitting at the dinner table or anything, but he at least has his foot in the door to the house.

Maybe Bud will put him on the court with Mills, Bonner, Blair and Neal just to see if he can raise the bar?

Just by being 7 foot, Baynes raised the bar.

Question....

If Baynes turns out to be a posterizer, do you think the Spurs popularity among the casual NBA fan will rise? It seems that most of the stars are high flying dunkers. Am I wrong to assume as much?

Unless he turns into the face of the franchise, no I doubt very seriously the Spurs' popularity will rise. Spurs, fair or not, will be viewed by the casual fan as a very efficient, business-like and boring franchise as long as TD is the face and Pop is the coach.

Tiago, the first game you were healthy to play, you were the first player off the bench, tbh.

Yes, it was Tiago's poor health that took him two plus years to start next to Duncan tbh...

he might be playing bad, but he has been with the team for over 3 years now. you cant replace him with a guy who probably hasnt even been to a practice yet. its not like baynes was an nba player before this either, so he is still somewhat of an unknown.

we know what we are getting from blair... and its not good. might as well see what the kid can do, even if its for limited minutes. all he's gna have to do is bang with brand or kaman and stay around the rim on offense. not asking him to play with expertise and knowledge of the offense. we usually play small against Dallas by having jax or diaw on dirk anyway. not seeing many minutes for blair in this one

YESSSSSSSSSSSSS I was wrong! I thought they were mad after our two blowouts and would see us as injured here without TIMMAY and POP and take it to us or we would lose in a close one! I thought short handed we would lead most of the way and then lose it late as happens a few times! GOOD WIN! I am glad I was wrong, yes I am.

Sean Cagney

What did I tell you. This team can hold their own without their leader. It would have been correct if you said this a couple years ago. Pay attention to the confidence of ALL our players. It's through the roof. Well, with the exception of Baynes so far...:depressed

Read my post again above, I was happy I was wrong.
