The weird thing is that they are showing a picture of an android Hboot which indicates rooting, but that is not what the article is about.

this doesn't affect rooting, however. just unlocking a SIM for another carrier, as Drachen said.

I'm hoping that Google gets into the service arena. I can see them saying "Hey, buy your data from us and we don't give a shit how many android devices you use to access it and where they came from."

Instead of the ringing sound people will hear ads when they call you, but this is ok because your phone bill will be $0 for up to 500 mins and 2 GB data.

It's only for carrier subsidized phones so there are certainly ways around it

I'm confused why the fuck they care that you're phone is unlocked. You're still responsible for the monthly bill you signed with your contract and it's not like you have to return your phone after the term.
Really, why the fuck do they care? I'm actually confused, someone fill me in.

Simple. If there's money to be made selling a phone, then the carriers want that money. If somebody buys a phone from a carrier then unlocks it to work with another carrier, the second carrier lost a phone sale.

Thanks. Sad world we live in. Such a mindset requires so many unverifiable assumptions it's not even funny.

I've been on the fence in jail braking my phone, I just don't wanna fuck anything up and end up with a 4S paper weight.
