View Full Version : Stepped on a Nail....

About an hour ago, I was taking down a shed in my backyard and accidently stepped on a nail. It went straight through the shoe and pretty deep in my foot. It hurt like hell and I put some hydrogren peroxide on it to clean it. I haven't had a tetanus shot since I was around 14 and I'm 21 now. Should I go and get another shot or am I in the clear?

Hydrogen peroxide is a great disinfectant. To safe though you should get a tetanus shot. You never know what could have been living on that (rusty?) nail.

You usually get DTaP vaccinations every 10 years after adolescence. You should be fine since it's been 7 years.

It was a rusty dirty nail but I have always been told it is the dirt and not the rust that causes tetnus.

Hit it with alcohol and if it starts to get red/swell or you get fever go to urgent care

Everybody should try tetanus at least once in their lives.

It's recommended for every 10 years, but if you get a deep wound you should have a booster if it's been more than 5 years.

Yeah, thanks. That's my rationale for getting it done tomorrow.

I'm assuming a deep wound? Yeah, go to the clinic.

Who puts a board filled with rusty nails ¡n that particular position and location. You were asking for it.

This isn't a board that is just sitting in the middle of the yard, genius. Like I said, I was taking down a shed. It was on my fathers property when he bought it and he wanted it down because it was torn up. I had already taken down the walls that were connected to the base.
