Many people are dissin Benu persoanlly i liked him yea he couldnt handle pistons in the finals but hey they were the champs with a very good D, but would N Van Exel be a good backup for spurs he has a shot and im sure his D cant be any worse then Beno

at backup point guard spurs have

1. beno
2. barry
3. manu

if barry stays is there a need for another backup point guard

if tp goes down 20 games it is going to hurt the spurs no matter if they get a guy like nve

spurs are used to speed with tp

Barry proved to me that he is the backup point of the future.

I think the Spurs COULD go with Parker, Beno, and Barry. However, if you get a veteran I think they should not only to provide depth but to also mentor Tony and Beno.

After being the lead guard on two championship teams, you'd think Parker would be enough of a veteran to mentor Beno, especially since Beno's also played pro ball for seven years.

Beno will simply have to show he is quick enough to play at a high level in the NBA. Learning to break the press against a top defensive team should be easier.

People will be very happy with Beno's development next year.

I don't see Van Exel coming. Isn't he retiring?

if beno could somehow improve his quickness he'd be better he has the shot of a SG but the body of the PG, his ball handling skills need a lil' improvement also

I don't see Van Exel coming. Isn't he retiring? He's talked about it, but if his knees are ok after the summer a Kerr-type role would be quite good for him. We could do worse for a 3rd string point.

Players just dont get quicker. Beno is what he is and I think is a good compliment to Parker. However, if you can bring in a NVE to shoot 3s and provide veteran leadership and teach the youngsters a thing or two why not?

nick van exel cant play anymore
he was going to retire after last season, i dont think he made the greatest recovery of all time
he was good
now hes worthless

The Spurs will sign a third PG, whether it's Wilks or someone else from free agency, summer league, etc. You need three PGs for practices and injury protection and not rely on someone like a Brent Barry to fill the dual role.

Well he dropped 26 points and 8 dimes on the Wolves before he shut down for the season. Can't hurt to ask or work him out.

I wouldn't mind them working out Van Exel. But he still belongs to the Blazers for now (unless they waived him today). I think they'll look at a variety of veteran backup options.

Just glancing at the FA list, I don't see a lot of vets who would take a back seat to the two points we already have -- we may be getting another Wilks -- which isn't the worst thing that could happen.

Spurs definitely need a solid backup pg.

Beno is not a playoff performer, which the Spurs need.

If we go young, I'd like to take a look at Aaron Miles. He seems to be improving his shot and looks like he'd be a good system guy. He's playing for the Knicks in Vegas.

Spurs need a veteran like Jalen Rose.
