View Full Version : Poppovich Closing in on All Star Coaching Spot

Tweeted by Jeff McDonald, spurs writer, earlier tonight

-"West coaching gig goes to second-place team this season. OKC's Scott Brooks ineligible because he coached last year."

-"Game 2 of Clippers-Blazers series tonight from Staples. If Clips lose again, clinches All-Star coaching gig for Spurs' Gregg Popovich."

I find it ironic that the Spurs were fined by the league, for Pop resting players. Now he is calling the shots in the All star game. With 2 all stars going along with him.

Spurs currently up 3 games on the Clippers and 1 full game on the Thunder.

Ahh, it'd be the most epic thing I could imagine, if minutes before the game Pop announces that he sent Timmy and Tony home for rest purposes. :lol

Take that Stern! :ihit

How has Popovich not already clinched it? Worst the Spurs can be after 01/30/13 is 36-13. Best the Clips can be is 34-13.

But... the second place team is the Thunder...

McDonald just tweeted it wrong. Basically, Scott Brooks can't coach because he coached last year. So it comes down to either Pop or Del Negro at this point...

I understand the rule, just about funny how it was assumed that the Thunder will be number 1. I guess Pop will make the most of his rest now.

It's games through Feb 3, records could be tied if we lose out and Clips win out.

Ah. Last night, Wikipedia said Jan. 30. That's what I get for believing Wikipedia. Someone has edited it to Feb. 3 since then.

Pop's fine has nothing to do with how good the team is, how good they've been, the ASG or his players. It was about a decision made at the last minute that embarrassed the NBA and Stern.

Highly unlikely we are up 2 1/2 games and are next two are at home vs. the Bobcats & Wizards (where we have won 16 straight at home, and 8 straight overall.)

I'd go even further than that and announce he's benching all the starters.

Make him play Durant till his arms wilt to a human length.

Then play C Paul injured, send Tony home.

Send Tim home and pick up Marc Gasol, drop Kobe's ego on his right foot.

Considering Tuiasosopo has officially knocked Pop of his spot as master troller, I would fully endorse Pop raising his game to that level.

It's pretty much impossible to play Durant more minutes than Brooks did last year.
