Should have taken it, tbh. I don't see another way for him to make a comeback. He has to showcase his talent somewhere, if he has any left.

Shame. I would've liked to have seen him reclaim the chucker title one last time.

Wouldn't even play off the bench in the NBA, much less play in the D league. I wouldn't do it either though. He's got a reputation to protect.

AI still has money (surprisingly, tbh). Plus he gets a sizable monthly check from Reebok. Playing for like $250 a game in the D-League or whatever it is would be a dumb financial decision. Keeping his "street rep" is more valuable to him than potentially embarrassing himself for chump change.

Doesn't Iverson have a lot of money put away by someone else that he can't legally touch until he turns 55? But that he still gets a monthly check from?

Nah, I think someone in his inner circle was able to get him to stash money away so that it would be available to him in the future. At least there was one person who gave a shit about him when he was blowing all his money on jewelry and all.

Here it is:

http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/more_sports/iverson_isn_broke_down_o9flvhfTwhRD1lNMWBFuyJ/0

However, hold the bankruptcy proceedings. He is far from insolvent, at least in the real world, if not in harmony with his “nothing in moderation’’ lifestyle. Someone who cared a great deal for Iverson and grasped the extent of his habits, loyalties and generosity protected him to some degree from financial ruination, at 36, at any rate.

A person with a firm grip on the situation informs me Iverson has an account worth $32 million, a principal he is prohibited from touching until 55. In the meantime, it feeds him $1 million annually.

Damn, good find :tu

I was wondering how he still had money since ex-players with huge entourages who frequent casinos are usually broke within a year or two after they retire. That plus the Reebok check should keep him rich until age 56 or so.

whats the schtick with rags to riches black athletes feel like theres an obligation to support their entourages extended family and shit?....when ur broke nobody gives a shit about you, when ur rich they come knockn on your door....or when they are rich, they are uncontactable when ur askin for money...

IIRC he set up a blind trust, which is the account that BB cited. Smart move and he's very, very fortunate to have listened. 1M year allows a nice lifestyle still (I am not sure about the money from Reebok or what that entails either)

after taxes and funding his entourage if he has any....he wont have much to spend, but is probably living better then most of america...

i dont get why he or any athlete have any obligation to help members and entouarge, they come and go once ur broke

He's supposed to have special knowledge of that or what? If I hit the big time I wouldn't forget my friends. I'd call them and remind them every day. "Whacha doing?" "Oh working as usual" "not me, bitch".

He has some annuity that pays $1,000,000 a year to him because of a $30,000,000 investment he made where he gets the $30,000,000 principal back at some point.

The fact that annuity is all he has left is pretty remarkable.

Clowns with beer guts like you have no fucking idea about how to hoop...it disgusts me to see fat disgusting clowns like you passing judgements on real ballas...just for the record...AI should have a place in the top 12 list simply by virtue of the refs systematic conspiracy cheating against him...no one ever wants to talk about this or what it means to the record / history books...or his legacy for that matter...I don't know of any other players the refs admitted to openly cheating against. pretty fucking sad...

this is one of the few remaining CBS vids left as I'm sure the commish paid people off to remove the video reference:

If you were once one of the biggest superstars in the NBA, why would you go play in the D-league just for a "chance" to get back in the league? He's better off just never playing basketball ever again. MJ comment is off base. It's not like when MJ un-retired to play for the Wizards, he went to play for some CBA team first to try out and let the Wizards see if they wanted him or not.

no but his logic like with coming off the bench (for example) - do you know any league mvp who come off da bench etc... you don't stay the same skill and athleticism your whole life, he's irrational as fuck and still has a massive head. its the same now - he reckons hes still amazing and deserves a starting spot

I recall my father worked on an insurance case involving a Spur player back in the 80's, that involved disclosure/examination of personal finances.
As I understand it, NBA players get a pension/stipend of some kind based on the number of years in the league. I don't recall at what age it begins.
Curious if that's still the case and/or if my recollections are accurate.
My recollection was that even a journeyman who sticks around in the league for a few years qualifies for some pretty nice (but not bling-bling) pension cash.

Only people that enjoy drinking are alcoholics. Are you an alcoholic?

I'm pretty much a lightweight. I dont drink anything other than beers. Any other hard liquor will fuck me up.

That really depends on the person. Are you talking collector afficionados or people who buy beers or whatever to drink just because it is another day?

The former would classify as being an alcoholic.

I only asked you that because of the way your post came off as. You made it sound like you're a heavy drinker.

Loving beer, wine and liquor doesn't automatically = heavy drinker. When I think "heavy drinker" I think of a fatty with 30 pack of Bud Light sitting by his recliner downing one after another. I love beer but I usually won't drink much more than a six pack in one sitting(several hours).
