The Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers have emerged as the top teams to sign 2007 No. 1 overall pick Greg Oden according to a CBSSports.com report.

CBSSports.com, citing a source, reports Oden hopes to meet with Heat officials within the next week.

The Cavaliers are doing their due diligence while evaluating Oden, said a person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team's interest is contingent upon the center's health.

that news is disappointing. i'd hoped we'd sign him. i'm not surprised though. he might get more than a minimum from the cavs. and the heat are just the sexiest team for ring scavengers. he outta consider the spurs have the sexiest coach, classiest team, and ultimate mentor player.

But on the Spurs, he'd be playing 5-on-8 ball, which means additional wear and tear on his fragile knees as he gets hammered away in the paint. The situation will be reversed if he suits up for the Heat.

No surprise here, all the decent players either go to Miami or L.A. Small markets just never catch breaks anymore.

True dat, my gripe is with us not being able to land anything other than Austrailian scrubs. It'd be nice to land a quality player to come join the fray once in a while.

I understand the sentiments why the (boring) Spurs are not the preferred destination of free agents and the likes. The Heat can have Oden, I don't think the Spurs care at all.

Do you guys think that the Spurs spoke to him or watched him work out at all?

Are we upset about this? Why would we want Greg Oden?

shocking. oden always has that 1% chance of becoming a solid big man in the NBA. but after so many season ending surgeries, the psychological impact will make him a shell of his former self. the thought of another injury will always linger in the back of his mind and he will play timidly. not to mention all those injuries probably decreased his athleticism.

Baynes > Oden

The Spurs would have been better of keeping Curry if they wanted a reclamation project, and as much as Eddy got glorified here in the preseason, notice that he didn't stick in Dallas either, and is currently out of the league.

:lmao pathetic

dude needs 3 weeks to decide where to continue his career which will most likely consist of 1 or 2 actual games until his next knee explosion

Moot point. They can't beat out Miami or Dallas in terms of desirable places to play and Cleveland is near his hometown of Buffalo. The Spurs don't have a snowball's chance in hell of landing Oden and they know it.

I never understood why Dallas is a desirable place to anyone...
If Oden want to extend his game, Timmy is the best available tutor in the market...

3-4 weeks is fine, he's not playing this season anyway. hope we pull it off.

learn from Tim. IMO

Heat just signed Varnado for the season, and gave Birdman his second 10 day. They have 15 on their roster now. I guess it depends on if they are looking beyond this year. If they are then maybe Oden makes sense, but he's not going to help you this year and Birdman might.

Spurs have always been one of those 'interested' even though the situation does not merit the signing (full roster, cap sitch). If Spurs are working him out though (along with aforementioned free agent Donte Greene) it's highly probable Blair is on the move (released/packaged with one of our Gs).

Also I'd like to point out: I don't think De Colo will be traded soon. Either Mills Neal or CoJo are on their way out.

That's just stupid. Anyone that would takes Baynes over a potentially healthy Oden is just stupid. Oden was starting to put up some big games before he got hurt last time.

And no, Eddy Curry is not a better reclamation project. He never had any defensive potential. Oden has/had all time great defensive potential.

It's fair enough if the Spurs have taken a look at him and concluded that his knee is not in good enough shape, but if they are passing without taking a proper look, then that is just retarded. Spurs can't seem to get any good free agents to come here, so taking a risk on someone like Oden, for probably minimum salary, would be worth it IMO.

Pop would work Oden out or say he was interested just to help generate a buzz for him.

Oden is fucking garbage, and whomever said Baynes > Oden is dead on. Rather have a guy who can actually play and not injure himself trying to block a shot.

Oden's got to play one good season before he's worth taking a look at. I just don't think the guy can stay healthy.

Austrailian scrubs

how about #1 draft pick scrub who has yet to play a full season in more than 5 seasons? shit, i'd take baynes any day over oden because baynes can actually stand on his own damn feet. what exactly has oden done to deserve such praise?
