“I find myself talking sometimes and I can’t believe what I just said,” he says with a hearty laugh. “Realistically I have only one year left, so I’m trying to enjoy myself.”

If he continues to play the role of facilitator, yes. If he goes back to 30 PPG, no, because he will aim for the number 1 spot on the all time scorers list.

Sell. He's staying for another year at least after his contract expires.

My theory.

Kobe's playing pass first now to save his relationship with Dwight. To show Dwight that hey dude, see? I'm willing to feed you if you stay in LA and help me win a 6th title. Kobe will probably average 25ppg for the next 2 seasons. Enough to pass Jordan and Malone on the scoring list, then he'll retire.

I never believed Kobe's going for the All Time Scoring points. Thats way too much for anyone to break. Kobe would have to average exactly 25 ppg, play 82 games for the next 5 years and he's still maybe a few hundres points short behind Kareem. Its just not possible.

kobe is a great teammate to play with when he doesn't jack up shots. he will continue to make contributions to his team for another 2 or 3 seasons but you better not expect him to play as a role player like ray allen something, he'll call time to his career rather than continue playing as a #2 option on his team imho

Poker move. He's hinted that he's going all in, but it's not his turn. He doesn't have the best hand and he knows it but his chip stack is short so he's substituting his statement for "I want to be traded". No one is going to pick up that contract, and he doesn't really want to be traded (didn't back in 2007 either). He's played that bluff. He now has the "about to retire" bluff and let's see how Buss responds. I would guess there will be some moves before the deadline, and Kobe's timing on that wasn't accidental.

Howard wasn't on his team 2 years ago.

That original story in the LA times generates an attack page warning. Strange.
