:lol the latest example of why volume assist point guards are the most overrated players in basketball

Boston couldve won these games with Rondo as well. They're on a mini win streak, all teams go through this. Lets see how they do for the rest of the year.

In addition to perimeter players that can't shoot, but inexplicably receive too much hype at the onset of their careers..Rondo, Tyreke Evans, John Wall, Eric Bledsoe, etc..

Celtics look much improved with Pierce as the offensive facilitator..

Yeah its a pretty small sample size, everyone is playing well. I think Rondo does help them a lot

Rondo has been painfully overrated, tbh.... he's another one of those overrated point guards (along with DWill and Whistlebrick) that the idiotic media has delusionally tried to hype up as better than CP3.... in reality, Rondo is a stat-padder with a toxic attitude, the Starbury or Francis of assists...

Yeah point guards who can't shoot are cancerous and make it so their team is easy to defend. The only championship Rondo's ever winning is when his team doesn't need him in the 4th quarter of key games and he can sit in favor of Eddie House :lol

I have no idea how they are winning games with that absolute scrub Bradley playing. Dude can't score, shoot or pass. It's incredible. Yes, he's a good defender for a PG, but that alone isn't enough to win games. He sucks something fierce.

Score one for advanced stats. The numbers said the Celtics were actually better without Rondo. So far, looks true.

The NBA will be better the day that players stop whoring for boxscore numbers, tbh. 2012-13 Rondo being the prime example.

I actually think Rondo's biggest assets are his defense (on ball) and rebounding out of PG position, but since he doesn't play defense this year, only rebounding will be missed much especially since Boston's such a crappy rebounding team.

People weren't saying this last year's playoffs when Rondo's style did pretty well and won them several games. Sure, he does a few things to get extra stats, but I think BOS is just a worse team with Ray gone and everyone aging a year. Many times a guy goes down and a team rallies for a short-term time. Not saying Rondo is not overrated, but he's not so bad that they are better without him (I think he just needs a roster custom made for him and this isn't it).

That's what I like about the Spurs. Individual stats are secondary to the most important number - the score.

Rondo's shooting was more accurate during last year's playoffs, it was an anomaly IMO..in games 6 and 7 vs. Miami, Rondo's ineffectiveness against a good defense was on display, he hurt Boston's offense..that's even more of an indictment on Rondo than usual, as he usually plays well vs. Miami when Lebron is guarding Pierce..

Rondo vs. the Lakers in the 2010 Finals was embarrassing for a "star" player, tbh..

While I miss Rondo, can't deny the team is doing well, and Rondo was having a few off nights this year. I don't have high hopes, but we will see.

Crazy talk. Of course can have some good stretches without one important piece. The fact that spurs are winning without Tim or Manu doesn't mean they are better off them that's silly.

rondo has his flaws but he also has his strengths and a very reasonable contract. One year ago guy was supposed to be a beast and now he is a scrub ?! :lol

This just proves that unless you are a flat out SUPERSTAR, a team can survive without you. How many wins is Rondo worth over an 82 game season? I'd say 5 tops.

He ain't no scrub, and his contract is decent, but his passing, while above average, is clearly overrated (such as the overrating article in ESPN last week, IIRC), his offense hasn't taken the next step this season, his defense is actually regressing, while mentally, he hasn't matured more as expected. Basically, he's a very good player, but clearly not a cornerstone that's dependable.

to me KG is still the most valuable player on that team. I think their defense would become putrid without him.

assists padding ain't the biggest problem with this nigga imho. i would be glad to have someone on my team who can deliver 10+ assists every game if he can also hit some shots from outside. rondo's inability to make shots from long range makes him a nonentity when he stands at the perimeter, which severely limits his influence in half-court offense imho. you can limit the number of shots you take and concentrate on helping teammates to score, like jason kidd does, but it doesn't mean you can afford to have an amature shooting hand when you play PG imho. rondo would be a HOF'er if he could actually hit something in the mid and long range tbh

This

I remember when Tony's FT form was horrendous, now he's having a career year at the stripe

Maybe that's why Rondo dislikes driving to the hoop.

Yes and this is something that is driving me crazy as a Celts fan. This team is all about dedication and hard work. I cannot believe that a talented guard like him is not capable to spend a freaking summer to improve his FT shooting. There is not a lot of bad FT shooters guards in the league: wade when he is coasting during RS, Iguodala...and Rondo...umbeavable.

Yeah, team goes from allowing 101.1 points per 100 possessions when he is on the court to 109.9 when he is on the bench so far this year.

Say what you want about him during the regular season, there is no other point guard I'd want on my team in Playoffs other than Rondo.

Sad but true. I always liked watching point guards more than any other position, but DoKs theories have made me jaded about their impact.

The main problem is that a team having to rely on a PG to do the majority of the scoring and playmaking typically exhausts said player. Also, a point guard is usually the smallest player on the floor and just doesn't have the same kind of overall impact on the game as a big or even a wing. They don't draw the same kind of double teams as bigs and the best wings, nor can they really impact the game defensively. Point guards should complement the offense rather than be the center of it.
