- Mac Pro (god damn please release the update already)
- A new pair of earphones because I broke my "straight from the box" earphones. Maybe that's a sign from the heavens.

With my Evo LTE totaled, my next cell phone upgrade is in ~Decemberish. I'm looking at the Galaxy IV perhaps.

I'd love to have a Vita at some point, but not sure if it's worth the cost sink considering I just bought a new PC.

Not exactly a gadget but I've been pining after a mechanical keyboard for a while.

My Swan M10 speakers (amazing btw) have been running strong for 5 years but I think the sub is not long for the world. Might hop over to the Audioengine A5s.

Down the road looking for a 3rd monitor and 2nd video card for my main rig.

My laptop is from 2009, but still going strong and I only use it for the basics. Still, if I find myself with extra funds, I may pull the trigger on an ASUS Zenbook Touch.

That's all I can think of, tbh.

I'm just buying a little bit at a time. Probably a 4G Vcard(NVidia.) Six-core I7 (May even go extreme if the price drops a bit.) 12G Ram.

Gonna be a beast. Been 5 years since my last build and I've mainly been gaming on my laptop since the ole' DT is showing its age.

Yes, but they can also lose their mind... The memory degrades over time. Not a big problem, you just have to rewrite stale files every now and then. They probably come with a utility to do that automatically.

Do you have SATA3 on your motherboard?

If you do, transfer speed is about 4x better for read, 2x better for write.

Fastest Barracudas do about 150 MB/s read/write, 8.5 ms seek time. Top SSDs do 550 MB/s read, 300 MB/s write, 0.1 usec 'seek' time (there really is no seek time on SSDs, it's just the random access delay).

Under SATA2 the difference is smaller because you're capped by the bus bandwidth. An SSD under SATA2 normally does about 220 MB/s read, 260 MB/s write. Still faster than the faster Barracuda, but not by that much.

It's probably a SATA II. I would have to look, I don't remember.

Wild Cobra

It's an older system. I have contemplated buying a new one. The specs say Serial ATA-150. Came with 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM, Intel Pentium E6300 2.8 GHz. It does all I need, but I'm impatient, and shaving a second or two off of applications would be nice.

ElNono

That's SATA1... even a fast barracuda will be capped due to the bandwidth...

Wild Cobra
02-10-2013, 02:35 PM
I don't even know how accurate the above specs are. I pulled them off the net. The same model computer, but wasn't all the same as mine. This is in my computer management. You probably know these controllers. I don't without looking them up.

A quick look around the web shows that controller should be able to do SATA 300 (SATA2).

It's difficult to tell without doing some benchmarking with a fast drive or an SSD.

I'm not too worried about it. I don't need the raw power some people like. Looks like adding a SSD might only improve the seek times. The computer boots in under 30 seconds and plays video nice at full HD. I usually only use the computer for spreadsheets and pdf files, and I have no complaints about how well it handles large amounts of data.

This is what I ride these days. 17.5 pounds, ridiculous amount of power transfer. I've hit 42mph on it on a slight decline. Aluminum body w/ carbon fork and stay, Mavic Ksyzium Elite wheelset, Ultegra front and rear derailleur, Ultegra crank, Dura-Ace shifters.

Lee, that looks like a sweet bike. As a road biker, I am eternally jealous of seeing mtn bikes hop over rough terrain. :lol

Your bike looks great, I love Mavic rims. I just got a new one for my Cannondale, upgraded from the CXP-21 to the CXP-22. The 21 did last ~9k miles before it cracked a little bit :cry
I was looking in at my ABS for a 29er for a month or two, and the owner asked me exactly what i was looking for and he happened to be building a bike off the frame I got. They also have a sweet Cannondale carbon bike for 1k I have had my eye on but I can't afford that quite yet. It's nice to be able to switch between bikes if I need to. Use the roadie for daily training and the 29er to get down to the pub, grocery store, etc.

Also looking to buy a 2nd telescope, the one I have is great but I'd like to get one with tracking for astrophotography. A few years down the road, I'd like to step up to a 16" scope, but they are a hassle to move around.

I just completed the bike MS this past weekend on my chromolly 2005 Marin Argenta. I feel like something clicked for me as I have never ridden that far before. Now, I'm already itching to get back on the bike whereas in previous years (with much less milage), I didn't even want to look at my bike for weeks.

To the point of the thread, I'm thinking about buying a new bike, but haven't even started looking yet, so for a purely road bike, does anyone have any suggestions in the $1000 range?

Also, I'm thinking about getting the new MS Band. I have the fitbit surge and it fucked up tracking my century ride on Saturday.

You have strava/endo/Garmin? I'm riding my bike about 60-80 miles a week now that I'm dealing with a foot injury that stops me from playing most sports (the Duncan injury, plantar fasciitis). It's pretty impressive how fast my stamina has built up from riding. 90 minutes in the saddle is nothing compared to 45 minutes of running. I can burn 2k calories and not even feel tired. :lol
