Wow.

Well, I can't disagree. Pop is there in the locker room and he knows if Parker needs rest. That was a great effort last night and Parker has been carrying a massive load lately. Buying him some rest and limiting the risk of injury is probably a smart move around the All-Star break.

Oh, and it's good to see that Pop isn't flinching about resting his guys when he deems it necessary.

Pop tanks against the good teams :(

Of course he does. He's playing it smart. Why rest against crappy teams and reduce the chance to win what should be gimme games, and then still risk losing against good teams in what would be rough games even at full strength? As is, he goes all out against teams we have the best odds of beating to ensure the most wins at the end of the season.

I like it. Tom Thibidouex won't change his team's style of play and this team has to just trust the SYSTEM. If they lose, they lose but they have to show Pop that they believe.

6 games in 16 days and Parker has knee swelling.... That's worrisome. He should probably sit all star weekend to rest his ailing knees. No need to play him in a glorified scrimmage game. Funny how he never mention this on his radio show. I wonder why De Colo, Splitter, Green or Neal never get swelled knees or break a finger nail.

Fabbs
02-11-2013, 08:51 PM
Oh, and it's good to see that Pop isn't flinching about resting his guys when he deems it necessary.
Pops savvy, veteran experience picks up on super hard things to spot like overplaying players. A coach with lesser experience, insight and basketball wisdom would not. For example in 2011 regular season, Manu Ginobili was inserted by CIA Pop in the 82nd game of the regular season in a frivolous chase for the best record in the NBA.
GNobs elbow got reinjured and he had to sit out Game 1 of the playoffs. But CIA Pop had only been an NBA coach for 15 seasons at that time.
Plus the Spurs won two games that entire playoffs. That's two more then Bob Hill won in 2011.
Pop was and is the man.

I love Pop. He couldn't resist giving Stern a big FUCK YOU sitting Parker for the Spurs only appearance in Chicago this year.

Honestly, I think he's just been resting Duncan this whole time as well.

Maybe next year the NBA will reconsider having us play our only games in Chicago and Miami on the 2nd night of back to backs. :nope

Only visit to Chicago + Nationally televised game = Substantial sanctions

Nope.

Pop only gets fined if he puts the Big Three on a plane back to SA.

He's got 'em sitting on the bench this time.

It's like Steve McQueen in "The Great Escape" when he knows if he's not wearing his officer pin after he escapes from Stalag Luft III he'll be shot as a spy. Then he tries to jump that barbed wire fence into Switzerland on his motorcycle, but he comes up short and lands in the wire. And the Germans come up about to shoot him as a spy. But Steve McQueen pulls out the collar of his sweatshirt and he has his officer pin inside and he shows it to 'em with that big Steve McQueen smile.

That's Pop.

No one shoots Steve McQueen. :toast

Whether Parker's knee was truly swelling or whether he only needed rest, I say good call by Pop. He knows the pulse of this team better than anyone. I'm just glad that Pop was smarter about "couching" the explanation for the public, so as to keep the NBA suits out of his hair - especially Dictator Stern.

I'll be the first to admit that booyyy was I wrong about this game. Although I'm happy the Spurs made me look like an idiot tonight. I just thought there was no way the Spurs could get this W tonight on a 2nd night of a back to back and without the Big 3 + Jack. That, and add in the fact that they were playing a tough defensive team. Hell of a game for the Spurs, I am proud as hell...:tu
