One of the local daily's sports editor jumps on the TP MVP train:

[...] Spurs point guard Tony Parker has quietly put together his finest season for an organization that has no problem playing beneath the radar. In any other season, Parker would stand a great chance at winning the MVP, and even in light of James’ recent scoring assault, he remains my pick because he’s every bit as important to his team as James is to his.

Parker is the best player playing on the team with the best record in the NBA (41-12 entering Wednesday’s game at Cleveland), and while the Heat, Thunder, and Lakers are getting the most attention, it’s Parker’s Spurs who are winning despite two of their biggest pieces being limited in one way or another.

Here’s something you may not know about Parker, because he rarely shows up as the lead on the highlights: He was on his own epic six-game run before coach Gregg Popovich sat him with a sore knee last week. From Jan. 26 through Feb. 10, Parker averaged 27.1 points, 8.8 assists, with a .627 field goal percentage, which is nothing to sneeze at since Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili appeared in only three of those games.

The overall digits are great — 20.7 points per game, 7.7 assists, and a blistering .535 field goal percentage. Parker is dominating the competition and keeping his teammates involved, something he couldn’t do in his formative years.
