Seems pretty cheap. I'm looking for a basic laptop to do work from - I will be riding the caltrain to work from now on so I have 2 hours a day to study for the CPA exam - mainly listening to lectures
off a cd, doing some excel work, etc.

Does this seem like a good deal for what I'm looking for?

It looks decent enough and I love ASUS, but 2 points:
- are you okay with its portability: it's 15.6" and looks a little on the chunky size. I couldn't find its weight. I'd probably be partial to a 13.3" or even 11.6"
- 4 hours of battery good enough (probably closer to 3 hours with actual use)?

Those are good points, didn't even think about that....

Somehing like this is pretty nice, 13.3", less than 3 lbs, 6.5 hours of battery:

It's $150 more so I'm not sure if that's outside what you wanna spend. I'm sure others here might know of some deals - I've been out of the laptop game for a while, tbh.

I bought my wife an ASUS Q200E ...it's a small, i3 lappy with a touchscreen. She loves it. Extremely light and easy to carry around. At the time, it was $450.

You basically described my Toshiba Satellite lappy (bought it in summer 2009)

I want a smaller and lighter lappy dammit !!!!!

And with longer battery life too
(but I got around that by tweaking the settings when unplugged)

lol @ those other suggestions

$549
14"
coreI5
6G DDR3 Ram
24G SSD -- 750HDD
NVIDIA 610M
Up to 8 hours battery (which means 5-6)

Make sure to read the reviews...Some bad ones about wifi issues out of the box are easily correctable, and I doubt you're going to be switching over the OS.

Almost unbeatable in terms of bang for your buck, imo

Fucking love my Lenovo. Not the same but quite similar.

This one has sweet specks, but honestly a bit more than I wanna spend for a second laptop that I will probably only use couple hours a day....

Does it come with Microsoft office pack?
