Mavs play a bunch of middling teams, while the Lakers play most playoff squads, or teams that are at least playing better, as of late. The Lakers are making a strong push for 8th; could they end up in 11th before too long?

Don't know about that. Both teams have been playing better. When all you've got is Portland and Houston standing between you and the playoffs, the door is open.

I'm betting one makes the playoffs, but not both. Just wonder who it will be...

They could go on a run, but they need to stop putting the ball in OJ Mayo's hands late in games if they want to win at a decent clip... it's mind-boggling how careless he is with the ball in clutch situations....

only one team will make the playoffs this year, even for the best scenario. rocks will probably lose a row of games w/o harden and they're the only current top 8 team that's likely gonna give up their playoff seat for either the mavs or lakers imho.

Dirk gets better and better which means that he has the ball in his hands.

If the Lakers stay the same after the deadline which is very possible, I dont see them making the playoffs. I've been saying it since December, even before Nash came in that it's over. Kobe has always been a warrior, but it seems like whenever the odds are strongly against him he kind of mentally taps out. Between that, Mike Brown's ridiculous decision to adopt the princeton offense, devastating injuries, passing on Phil and hiring Fagtoni, and the locker room cancer that is Terrell Owens 2.0 Howard I'd say this Lakers team would pay money to end the season now
