On Wednesday, though, a basketball player was suspended for using PED’s. Hedo Turkoglu will miss 20 games for violating the league’s anti-drug program.
The Orlando Magic player tested positive for methenolone, which is on the NBA’s list of banned substances. Methenolone is a type of anabolic steroid.

I tried to get some informations to know how the NBA treats drugs problem and it's very strange because the stars players never have problem.

I found this article (ibtimes.com 2011):
Derrick Rose, the NBA's most valuable player and star point guard of the Chicago Bulls, recently said that basketball has a huge steroids problem. ...

Lebron James, star of the Bulls' playoff opponent Miami Heat, agreed with Stern in a 2005 Maxim interview. When asked about steroids in the basketball, James responded, It's something that's not done.
James explained, It's just something in the NBA that hasn't been done, so no one's going to start. I wouldn't expect to see anybody taking steroids in the game of basketball. That would be kind of crazy.

What do you think about drugs problem in the nba ? I wonder if Pop or Tim or another player of the Spurs have spoken on this subject.

Personal feeling: sometimes I find very suspicious physical performance of some players

I heard about Wade is under suspicion, cause of his big jaw and his quick athletic upgrade after the injury in 2007 or 2008

If the NBA tested for HGH, Lebron would have been gone before he left Cleveland.

20 games suspension says all you need to know about the nba. In any other Olympic sport you got 2 years ban for this.

I'm sure Lebron just hit the gym really hard.

Besides, it isn't as if being able to bullrush the rim and go through contact is Lebron's main physical advantage.

Not saying LeBron does roids, but if he did the league would make sure it didn't show.

Yeah I'm convinced that David Stern would do anything to protect Lebron.

Tim Duncan looked REALLY skinny as a rookie guys. LeBron came into the league and was already listed at 240 wasn't he?

I'm guessing around 80% of the league is on some sort of PED, I'd be shocked if there were any on the Spurs mainly because of how unathletic our players are. LA, Miami, Memphis seem like definite juicers.

No way it'd be that high. But even if 25% of players do that's a huge problem.

Of course LeBron says nobody uses steroids in the NBA. . .because he's obviously one of the people that do it.

Short list, imo:

LeBron
Wade
Westbrook
Howard
Griffin
Josh Smith
etc

I think those are the highest profile steroid users. But a ton more likely use. Steroids are definitely prevelant in the NBA. Rose is correct, LeBron just looks guilty claiming he doesn't think anyone uses.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was 80%, you gotta remember the NBA tests for steroids however they don't test for HGH. They won't start testing for hgh until next year I think, I'm pretty sure the NBA can only test urine and not blood for PED's.

Steroids can help with both your physical abilities and your recovery time from injuries. I even had some friends that were using roids in high school basketball, and I live on the poor side of SA.

And even when they do start testing these guy have ways to beat the tests, take Armstrong for example, or tons of boxers where PED's are all over the place.

No control, short ban when positive, huge money, lot of games, athletic freaks... I would expect a lot of players to use PED
