Brenda Blethyn not being nominated for Best Actress in Atonement

I can't say it better than aaryan-rooz:

“ Frances McDormand was sensational as the naïve, yet insistent cop in 1996's "Fargo". Yet, it doesn't even begin to compare with what Ms. Blethyn did in Mike Leighs masterpiece "Secrets and Lies". Hers is a performance of such depth and humanity that it merits the top spot on this list. I dare say, without a milli-seconds hesitation, that it is the greatest performance by a female actress... Of all time. ”

Joaquin Phoenix got snubbed with no nomination for his role in The Master, though I don't think he has the nicest things to say about the Academy so sort of makes sense.

i understand the critics dont like those soulless movies but the avengers deserves a award for screenplay at least, but is not likely to get one due to their innate prejudice against fictional films

West Side Story winning Best Picture over The Hustler.

Rocky winning Best Picture over both Network and Taxi Driver. Rocky is a classic film, but it isn't masterpiece territory like those other two.

Gump was easily one of the best movies hollywood has ever made and it was a well deserved one for gump aka. hanks, and im not a fan of him at all. hanks might appear a prissy hypocrit in most of his movies but Forrest Gump was a sheer exception and a great one tbh.

shawshank was great too and would've probably won oscar with ease in any other year, but it just came out at the wrong time like malone vs. jordan imho

Any year that Christ Nolan doesn't win Best Picture and Best Director.

But seriously, There Will Be Blood, Drive, and Inglorious Basterds should have won Best Picture in their respective years. Drive wasn't even nominated (probably because the Zionist controlled Hollywood was upset over the main villains being Jewish).

Gosford Park is one of the most overrated movies to be nominated for Best Picture. Take that piece of shit out and place The Royal Tenenbaums in its spot. I'd also replace The Kids Are All Right and replace it with The Town. The Kids Are All Right was a terrible movie and definitely not worthy of getting nominated for Best picture. I would also take Juno out and replace it with Gone Baby Gone.

Opinions I know but he's a far better actor than Tom hardy and certainly not as overrated as hardy either. Most people hate penn. I don't know how hardy gets roles. Last two films I saw him in he was dreadful

Opinions I know but he's a far better actor than Tom hardy and certainly not as overrated as hardy either. Most people hate penn. I don't know how hardy gets roles. Last two films I saw him in he was dreadful

Hardy was dreadful? Or the films were dreadful? I've seen him in some horrendous movies, but I've always found Hardy's performances very good. Even in the Star Trek movie he did way back forever ago.

But, yes, opinions and preferences and all that rot.

People don't hate Sean Penn's acting, his talent is undeniable. they hate the fact that he's a pompous douche who takes himself way too seriously. Or they hate his political beliefs. Probably the Oscar night where Chris Rock made a harmless joke about Jude Law, and Sean Penn took to the stage to issue a public scolding for it, is where people's opinions of him really soured. Or, in my case, when he stole Bill Murray's Oscar from him in 2003.

You're completely right, in person he is a wanker. But like Tom Cruise I just do my best to look past that and see that they are very capable actors.

Love Bill Murray but I preferred Penn in MR
