Lebron wasted a big oportunity to win DPOY by coasting on D for most of the season, tbh.

i dont think duncan deserves to win it this year, fck even if they award it to him will be some life achievement award that has nothing to do with his play this season...he should reject the award....

only 7 times since '82 has a player that wasnt a center won the award.. most recent ron artest in 2004.. odds are its a bigman, not takin anything away from lebrons D, but i dont think hes DPOY status

Duncan, our D/rebounding looked like shit when he was out
DRtg= 94, lowest since 2007

well i put him put him up there bc i think hes 3 or 4 in the league in block shots.. and has improved since last year

lebrons defense...chasing passing lanes for steals and blocking clowns from behind on fast breaks...i dont see him playing any sort of man2man defense shutting down a player below their seasonal avgs...
Duncan, he's averaging 2.8 BPG in just 29.7 mpg, he's also a better overall defender than both Howard and Ibaka.

u know his defensive stats are misleading right? i can go into detail if needed....
his defensive stats were shit when he had no other big next to him, compare it the seasons where there was bigs playing alongside him and its a big spike in defensive stats...
did i mention he never defends the other teams best big? its always the other big whoever is on the court with him, or him only playing defense on them during small stretches of the game or closing the game for a win...explains why his never fouled out cause his preserving his 6 fouls, while the other big is always in foul trouble defending the best big of the other team...
his blocks, are usually help defense blocking a guy from behind when the other big has already trapped him and ready for the block, sometimes u see 2 guys blocking a shot and duncan gets the credit...u know it, i know it, just dont tell it to spurfans and CoD members

pretty much this, thats all athleticism, but hes an average 1 on 1 defender.

If he really tried to he could win it, you know the media (voters) will be on his side. Besides I don't remember Artest on his prime being that much better on defense than a focused Lebron.

no troll intended, but what do u mean by he could if he wanted to, individual defense is not something lebron is known for. team defense is something else .

I mean putting the effort on D during the whole season and also making people pay attention by saying that he's aiming for the DPOY and creating hype with shit like that. He would definitely have a shot.
And I guess we would have to agree to disagree regarding Lebron one on one defense. When he tries Lebron is better than anyone on one on one defense, imho.

u think he has that much power in the media to hype himself? has he established that credibility? does lebron usually gaurd the opposing teams best player?

only stretches during the game or closing the game u will see him playing d on the best player, but other than that his nowhere to be seen most of the game....
if kobe can live on reputation of 2 mins like his playing locked down defense for most of his career, i dont think lebron cant get away with it

Lebron guarded the opposing team's best player for long stretches during the past 2 playoff runs..
He shut down Iguodala, Pierce, Rondo, Deng and Rose when he was assigned to them..Durant and Anthony's numbers were shitty in 1 on 1 situations against Lebron, but they dominated against Battier..
As DAF said, Lebron coasted on D during the 1st half of this year, clearly conserving his energy..during the past 2 playoffs, he has been the best perimeter defender in the NBA, with Wade not too far behind, tbh..

really, there is no big man that should win it other than Tim Duncan. It would be an easy trophy if Pops played him, but if he plays 20 per game then he will probably not win it. All the other bigs have no leverage whatsover, so it has to be a different type of player. If lebron and miami played like last year's D, then i would have no problem giving it to him, but with Oklahoma, Miami, Milwakee, New York all having average or below average team defenses, i really have no idea who will win it..

the only chance the league will give it to lebron is if they are trying to make another jordan this era....fck that shit

noah deserves a nomination at least. bulls are one of the best defensive teams in the league and noah deserves to take credit for that, especially when boozer is a mediocre-average defender

I was going to mention Joakim. He definitely deserves some consideration. He's also a do-it-all big man defender. He's not just a post defender or just a weakside shot blocker. He's great in pick-n-roll situations and on switches (at least compared to most bigs). He's also active in passing lanes and in getting deflections and steals for a big. And hs motor and intensity allow him to sustain a really high energy level all the time. Defensively, there's a little bit of KG in his game. Also a little bit of Ben Wallace in style.

Howard definitely doesn't deserve a mention. The Lakers' D is rated 18th this year. Thunder's 8th, Spurs are 3rd, Pacers are 1st, Bulls 4th, Heat are 12th. I think that rules out LeBron too imo.

It seems like you don't even watch the games with some of the shit you say.
Oh hey, Duncan's defensive stats aren't good with another big next to him? No shit. You're supposed to have two bigs on the floor, not one.
Duncan usually defends the other team's best big unless he's in foul trouble. You just described the exact opposite of what actually happens. Duncan doesn't foul out because he defends without biting on pumpfakes and shit. Notice how he rarely leaves his feet for a block and is usually in good position, not scrambling to get back to the spot he was supposed to be at. That's why he isn't fouling out, not because he isn't playing D'. Try actually watching games.
Most players' blocks are help defense blocks. But no, they're not "blocks from behind" either. He usually gets them when someone's diving in for a layup and trying to go around Duncan when Duncan moved over to help defend the basket. You know, basic, normal big man defense. Duncan actually gets less credit for his blocks, not more. When he blocks a guy's shot before the ball leaves his hands, it isn't counted. He does that fairly frequently too.

Didn't Lebron completely completely dominate last years playoffs on the defensive side of the ball? Or am I imagining that?
I'm finding it hard to believe people still question Lebron being the best perimeter defender in the game. Yeah he doesn't do it night and and night out in the regular season because he doesn't need to. Once the playoffs come around he will start guarding the other teams best 1-4 player (only player in the NBA that can do that) and then maybe everyone will remember.
Larry Sanders deserves it, tbh...

Just shows how gullible ST is tbh. Lee is still better but hes nowhere near the player dumb niggas acted like he was... i.e. idiots saying a top form or close to top form Diaw would still not be as good as David Lee (yet another terrible stretch take).
Who ever it is, they won't make the all NBA defensive team. lol at that shit last season.

you can have a great season as a defender (like the prime MWP) and win the DPOY award which you deserve, but there's still a big chance you will see bron and kobe being picked into the defensive team over you.
