americans don't have no culture but thank god america has a bigger % of christians than any european country and they're more pious than europeans as well. i don't think americans do believe the existence of god, or an invisible flying man who created the whole world, but americans share the common belief in human goodness and rightfulness imho. america has been the world's most powerful country for well more than a century but you never saw americans bullying other countries or abusing their wealth like the soulless yellow fucks do. god and christianity are just a symble or totem of american spirit in modern time imho

Religion keeps of surviving because parents brainwash their children. You cannot deny that is the main way religion gets followers. But since you didn't address the point I guess you're like Avante and really have no comeback

One of the tenets of religion is almost always faith. I think too many people are worried about theirs and their pastor's interpretation of the Bible (mainly, here in the USA) and not enough about realizing the glory of God's creation. I think that's the main thing that sort of, tripped the wire for me in terms of crossing over from creationist to, well, informed.

It would be ok if you said "my view" on religion, another view on religion, a popular view on religion, but "religion" shouldn't be confused with Christianity. Evolution is a religion, not to mention the 100s of other religions that don't even support the Bible or Jesus.

Its like if the topic was "the Truth about Music" and the cartoon had two people talking about Rap some may not consider rap Music.

I just think saying "the truth" about religion was misleading so I pointed it out. If that got your kangaroo knickers all twisted relax put another shrimp on the barbie and drink another Foster

Religion serves its purpose just as Santa Claus and the tooth fairy do, except for adults who aren't ready to grow up and accept the real world.

Nearly 33 million Americans not affiliated with religion, but believe in God

the growing trend seems to be more prevalent with younger Americans, with one third of American adults under the age of 30 saying they are not currently affiliated with a specificreligion (http://www.examiner.com/religion). Despite the increase in Americans with no religious affiliations, only 6 percent of American adults claim to be atheist or agnostic, suggesting that the lack of affiliation with organized religion should not be confused with lack of belief in God (http://www.examiner.com/topic/god).

In fact, of the 30 million Americans who claim no religious affiliations, 68 percent claim to believe in the existence of God, while 37 percent claim to be spiritual and 21 percent say they pray every day.

Many who fail to affiliate with a specific religion say they believe organized religion is too focused on money, power and rules and becomes too involved in politics.

No. If you travel to any modern country other than America such as Japan, Germany, Sweden, Canada, France, Britain, or Italy, you'll see secular countries that aren't controlled by dogma and a book of fairytales like America is.

It's amazing how people just make shit up about other countries compared to America.

What is amazing is how Jews and Arabs kill each other over religion - so they are both equally brainwashed and stupid.

What amazes me even more is how Americans are brainwashed into thinking Israel has never done anything wrong and the Jews are completely innocent.

That's so far from the truth, it's not even funny, tbh..... Bible-thumping, intolerant Jeebotards still dominate the American political sphere....

That's not brainwashing, that's just the truth. Benjamin Netanyahu is an evil human being who would commit acts of genocide against the Palestinian people if he was allowed.

Tbh he's probably one of those people who say, "This country went to hell because it lost its Christian values!" trying to insinuate that a tiny rise in atheism in recent years is somehow related to the collapse of America's economy.

Israeli's aren't perfect but they are continuously made out to be the only party doing anything wrong in the middle east and that's just a joke. Jews been targeted for thousands of years, I don't blame them for striking back hard when they are attacked, they are surrounded by enemies..

Edward
02-24-2013, 07:16 PM
They're the party doing most of the wrong stuff these days. Prior to Netanyahu they weren't nearly as bad but the reason the world's animosity towards Israel is so high right now is because of Netanyahu's policy.

Funny, because in most of the European countries that I went to, religion wasn't a big deal at all. Heck the entire year that I lived in germany I met one girl who went to church and the way she described it to me was that it was more of an organized social gathering than a worship service.

Went to Germany this past summer (actually each of the past two summers (also had a German Exchange student live with us for a year)). Germany is OFFICIALLY a Christian country (as opposed to USA - where separation of Church/State is guaranteed). Sunday (the sabath) all kinds of rules that don't apply to other days of the week: Trucks not allowed on the roads (working trucks). Can't mow you're lawn - police will literally come and make you stop/give you a ticket. I could go on, but suffice it to say, you're talking out you're ass.

Yes, they have blue laws, but they mean nothing religiously in practice. They are just a nice break for people.

people seem to have prejudice against religion imho. i don't believe the existence of god and im not a religious person but religion ain't just about warship or churching imho. i don't think parents are brainwashing their kids when they're just teaching their kids to behave in the right way. i doubt people still believe that land is square or shit but as you bury the old false scientific thoughts into the graves, you should've not dumped the moral standards imho. it was the loss of moral standards that caused the whole mess of shit if anything, people spent their money abusively and damaged the environment for fun because they don't fear the nature anymore. those religious doctrines might be outdated but the common ethics will never fade away tbh

They are brainwashing their children because they don't give them a chance to make their own decision, they bombard them with that shit at a young impressionable age and then its there for life basically. Yes a lot of a religion is teaching to be a good person but a lot is bad too, I see your point

Pay attention.

Original post I responded to claimed German to be a "Secular" country. I corrected poster by saying he was, in fact, wrong. I was surprised to learn German is, again, officially, legally, a Christian country. Christianity is the official religion; its holidays are recognized by the state, and the laws that exist to support that are absolute. AND I can tell you from experience, many Germans, although they do not attend Church themselves, are proud of that fact, and there is no move to eliminate the legal designation.
