Back in the day, I had insurance through USAA and a credit card as well because my dad was in the Air Force. I thought that once you were on your own, you weren't able to use USAA. But now it looks like they've changed their policy.

I'm thinking about going back to them. Seemed like they offered good products/services and were very quick and fair on insurance claims.

I've got USAA since my dad was in the Air Force as well; if you have the option to go back do it. You can't beat USAA, it's the best insurance/banking out there. I'll be financing my home through them soon.

ok I'm stepping out of character.

USAA is the shit. If you get on stay on.

Am I understanding it correctly that adults whose parents had USAA can now also join? Wondering if it matters if they are both deceased.

My oldest brother works there. As he is the sibling I am most likely to hit up for money once parenthood has rendered me destitute I highly recommend their services.

They have made some changes in regards to memberships, but if you've had it once, then you're good. Your wife and kids can have it and they're kids can have it and so on..

He had to be kidding, Fred Loya is the Mercury Cougar of insurance and USAA is 10x better. That's a fact.

USAA is great for insurance, but I prefer my CU for banking, auto, and mortgage-related services.

Their banking products are available to the public. That is federal law.

Once you are a member you are always a member. That has been there motto forever. Dependents of members are also eligible. When you add your kid to the auto policy or other something similar they get a number too and are eligible for insurance as well.

The main caveat is that actual military members are eligible for better rates.

Yeah, they've always been that way as far as I know. I've been a member since I was a kid as I have multiple ex-military family members. I use them for insurance, IRA/brokerage, and a little banking. But I usually do financing through RBFCU because they've had better rates.

USAA is still pretty good but the car insurance isn't the extreme best that it used to be.
GEICO and Progressive beat them in price.
