View Full Version : Spurs on pace to break franchise record of 63 wins
Amazing how a team that has been so successful over its history has never passed the 63 win mark once while Utah and Seattle have.

Third regular season championship here we come.
Doubt it happens, tbh. As much of a cake-walk as March is, April will be a pretty demanding end of the schedule.
Pop will "throw" 2-3 games between then and now, and the Spurs are probably due for a two or three game losing streak, their home-heavy schedule notwithstanding.

They would have in '11 if they didn't have that 6 game losing streak.

:nope to any doubters. Going 19-5 is damn well possible considering how many road games are left.
(Barring any tanking/injuries, of course)

Our April schedule will have plenty of games against teams still jockeying for playoff berth or going for better record for playoffs seeding, i think Pop will play good sport and not intentionally tanking games as long as health permitting. Perhaps controlling minutes, but not doing that Miami affair yet again & again.

I don't care about setting a franchise record. I just want best in the West

Spurs fan totally convinced the fucking dysfunctional Lakers will go 20-5 to make the playoffs, but also convinced the Spurs cannot go 19-5. WTF?

Interesting to note 45-13 isn't even the best pace they've had in the last 8 seasons --
2011 they were 48-10 and 46-12 in 2006 (which was the record 63 win season).
They were also 45-13 in 2005.

despite all the usual REgular Season 3-Peat jokes, it's still amazing what this team has accomplished the last few years. Last year was probably the most painful because i really thought the sea was parting for us only to have everything crash. While I don't know how this season will turn out, it's still amazing to keep an aging core together while evolving into something new on the fly. It's just cool to see the growth, changes and continued excellence.

Winning 16 in the playoffs is good enough to me

The last time the Spurs started 45-13 was in 2005... :hat

They were also 45-13 in 2005.
That team would have won 65 if not for Tim turning his ankle in Detroit. Damn they were poised to be better than the 99 team until Tim's ankles went to hell.

Agreed, but you act like one precludes the other.

The Spurs probably won't win over 63. . .they'll probably even just get 62. Long as they get the top seed and are healthy by the end of the season though, I'm fine with whatever number of wins they end up with.

Ya know, it is pretty crazy that, eventhough they haven't secured the number one seed yet but to get the number 1 seed in the west three years in a row is pretty damn impressive.

Funny you should mention that injury. I explicitly remember the scene of TD writhing in pain thinking the season was over. Really don't remember anything else from that season except Manu's 48 at Phoenix in January and of course the post-season run.
Also looking back via basketballreference.com the Spurs were 13-45 in the magical 1997 season fwiw.

Their Pythagorean W-L was 63-19.

Damn, I figured we had a .500 team given all the bitching that goes on on this forum. You'd think we fielded a team of scrubs, not the best team in the NBA.

All right, I don't want to say it. But I'm starting to feel the Spurs are the Jazz of the late 90's. Super talented veterans reaching the end of their run together, giving it their all, but coming up short, but so damn close.....Now everyone can come shit on me. But I see the correlation, not down to the T, but the feeling is there. I sure as hell hope I'm wrong. I want another title for the Big 3 so fuckin bad. Especially Timmy!

We won't get it. We'll lose more than 5 games the rest of the year, especially considering we'll be resting our starters a few games. All that matters to me is the best record in the league, whatever it may be.
Depends on if anyone else in the league ends up streaking close to our record. If not, Pop rests starters and we probably don't get it

The cHeat have an incredibly frail schedule coming up and are only 1 loss behind the Spurs.
That should be enough to get Pop to shoot for 64...
