Put Tyrus Thomas in a time machine back to the 60's and he's be a Hall Of Famer right now

I'm confident that Tyrus wouldn't have been as athletic back then. Maybe close to Bill Russell, but not near his level. [/wildcobra]

Yeah but the way they duck, cower, and get out of his way is fundamentally sound.

Look at how well Bill dribbles and motors it up court.
Stop the hatin, Bill rocks!
Put him on the same PEDs, weight training and diet perks of todays players and Bill easily competes.

yes indeed, but does this fine african specimen win 11 championships in today's nba and keep his spot as the 2nd greatest player behind jordan?

Probably not, but he routinely went through Wilt to get to those finals appearances, and he won his last title by beating a stacked Lakers team with West, Baylor, and Wilt. In fact, Russel held his own against Wilt. In all of their head to head matchups the stats look like this:
Wilt: 28.7 ppg 28.7 rpg (ridiculous)
Russel: 14.5 ppg 23.7 rpg
Russel revolutionized the way defense was played. He was the Tim Duncan of that era (obviously not as good offensively though). I think that regardless of era he's a GOAT defender and rebounder. Others centers like Shaq, Hakeem, Kareem, etc. were better overall players, but Russel was still great. Not top 5 though, imo.

I've always maintained that if Bill was born in 1985, he'd be a rich man's Amare Stoudemire. Higher basketball IQ, much better defender and passer, and even a more freakish athlete. Pair up Bill with a great pick-n-roll playmaker, and it's GG. Bill also possessed that rare combination of size, speed, and athleticism that very, very few players have ever had. Lebron James comes to mind to here, and since Bill was naturally a great passer (2nd best overall of his era behind Oscar), he could very well be a player like James.
That said, Bill is overrated. But every great from that era was. Obviously, Bill doesn't win 11 rings in the modern era, Wilt wouldn't average 50, Oscar wouldn't average a triple-double, and so on. But I still think Bill is a top ten player of all-time because genetic freaks with that kind of all-around skill set (Bill was pretty much the perfect basketball player aside from his poor FT shooting and offensive limitations, the latter of which were more by design, since the Celtics played team basketball. Bill could score big if needed) are a rare, rare breed.
Give a GM a time machine, have him draft Bill Russell out of San Francisco into the modern game, surround him with a solid supporting cast, and that team would be a perennial contender and probably win a couple of titles. Bill would have a rough go his rookie year, and indeed be more Ben Wallace than a championship centerpiece at that point, but basketball isn't rocket science. Bill would eventually adapt and likely evolve into that championship centerpiece, and by the end of his career, would have a resume worthy of a top ten great.

Russell was the Duncan to Wilts Shaq. I think Wilt would win more in the modern era than Bill would, but remember Russell was an athletic freak. The dude was a world class high jumper before entering the NBA.
Wilt would dominate in the same manner as Shaq did. The dude was bigger than Shaq and was an incredible athlete. Dude ran a 10.9 100m and was an elite triple jumper and high jumper in college. He doesn't put up his 1960's numbers of course, but he could have 30/15 seasons.

that guy in the clip was a damn incredible athlete by any standards, even todays. nobody in the league today that size can move like that. overrated all time sure, wouldn't dominate the same in today's league but he'd be a solid player like ben wallacebut probably a little better.
