Spurs fans are quick to claim Kobe did with Shaq. Using that logic, I would say Duncan did the same in 2007. Discuss :wakeup

Retarded.

Timmy was putting up 20/10 basically every game in the entire playoffs.

Parker was mostly crap up until the finals, where he had the fortune of being defended by garbage defenders like Boobie Gibson. Timmy recognized that and made sure that his team exposed mismatches (like he always does).

I don't get why Laker fans try so hard to dismiss Timmy and his body of work, other than for the sake of trolling spurfans. But Timmy is perhaps the best natural leader we have ever seen in the game. The only others that comes to mind are Bird and Magic, and perhaps Lebron in the future.

San Antonio was so much better than the Cavaliers as a team that it really didn't matter who won Finals MVP. They could have given it to Oberto for the job he did hedging out on LeBron, tbh.

Why did he win the finals MVP?

Because he scored the most. Duncan led the team in rebounds and blocks, and was 2nd in scoring and assists. In addition, Timmy and Bowen combined to shut Lebron down. Parker's finals MVP was a circumstance of having a favorable matchup at the PG position.

But yeah, the team's best overall offensive player and defensive anchor "coat-tailed" his way to a title...

haha I can't tell if this is a joke or not? Pretty much every sports writer said after Tony won the MVP they loved how cool Duncan was letting his friend enjoying it knowing he was clearly the MVP of that series. Pretty much anyone who watched those playoffs knew TP got it was because he scored a lot due to a favorable match up at PG. This is absurd to say he coat tailed his way to it.

Game 1 - 24pts, 13 reb, 5 blocks
Game 2 - 23 pts, 9 reb, 8 assists (a near triple double)
Game 3 - 14 pts, 9 reb, 3 assits, 2 blocks, 1 steal
Game 4 - 12 pts, 15 reb, 2 blocks, 2 steals, 3 assits

LOL COATTAILED!

The Cavs were shorthanded at PG. Larry Hughes was injured. His backup was the rookie Boobie Gibson, who wasn't a match for TP.

Shaq knew he was washed up and if Tim got a fourth finals MVP it would cement the Big Fundamental's place in history over the Big Traveling Offensive Fouler, so Shaq sold his soul to Stern. In exchange for the fix being in to give the MVP to anyone but Tim Shaq whored himself to anyone and everyone that Stern wished. First to Phoenix as a desperate attempt to keep the Spurs from getting anywhere in the playoffs the next year. Then to Cleveland in the hopes that they could get the league's goldenboy back to the finals. And finally to Boston because, well by that point I'm pretty sure he was just trying to fuck with Shaq.

Duncan was the best player on the Spurs though. Led the team in the post-season in points, rebounds, blocks, PER, win shares. Parker scored more in the Finals but that doesn't mean he was the best player. It says more about how shitty the Cavs were at the guard positions.

The 07 Finals was won by containing Lebron with Bowen on the perimeter and Duncan in the paint. When Lebron couldn't drive into the paint, he was forced to take jump shots (which he was terrible at back then). Once Lebron was contained, there was no doubt Spurs would win (Parker's mismatch notwithstanding) as Spurs had too much firepower for the rest of the Cavs. Spurs went OFFENSIVELY with the mismatch - Parker vs the hobbled Eric Snow and rookie Daniel Gibson but the series was won defensively (mainly Bowen and Duncan).

Kobe's finals MVP in 2009 was legit. He completely dominated that series. However I think the Finals MVP should have gone to Pau/Bynum. Pau for shitting all over KG, and Bynum for taking out Perkins.

Derek Fisher is a coattailer. 2007 coattaillers were Finley and Horry. They were at the end of the careers and bandwagoned the Spurs as short minutes in finals. About the only stat they helped with was rest minutes.
Without Shaq and officiating, Kobe might have won 1 but not all 3.
