Yahoo is in death spiral, Meyer knows it.

Really stupid in talent-poaching, flexible-work-hours, benefits-studded Silicon Valley for Meyer to deny flexible work hours.

My son works in Palo Alto and averages a new job offer EVERY DAY.

Oh, Gee!!

I couldn't work from home; don't have the discipline tbh.

It's not easy for everyone for sure, just like not everyone wants to or can start a business. But it's really stupid to commute to work and spend all day on a screen then drive home.

Works great for me, the company I work for saves a lot of money sending people home.

I've only known one person who worked from home. She was an engineer. When she had her child some years ago, the company set her up with a computer linked to her home. She provided reactive phone support and online support to maintenance people in the field. It proved to work so well, she moved, and it became her permanent job. Like Oh Gee implies, most people don't have the discipline to work unsupervised for long periods of time. I saw a news blip on TV last night about it. New upper management flexing muscles is the impression I got.

Really situational and more dependent of what kind of work it is is tbh..

Do you have any experience in software development?

Limited. Now in a job where end results of performance is what matters, working at home is fine. However, that's when private software writers become a better choice. You pay a contract for a given job, have no employee benefits to pay for.
