Gaels hit with 'failure to monitor' (http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/9002827/saint-mary-gaels-penalized-recruiting-violations)

...

The report said that the assistant arranged for travel to the United States and lodging with a local family for at least one recruit and that Bennett was aware of the activity.

...

While Saint Mary's rise has been predicated largely on its Australian pipeline, Orr said the major violations handed down by the NCAA involved the recruitment of French players by the former assistant. None of those players ever attended the university, Orr said, though some secondary violations included Australian players who did.

...

There have been 11 Aussies in all who have suited up for the Gaels, including current San Antonio Spurs (http://espn.go.com/nba/team/_/name/sa/san-antonio-spurs) guard Patty Mills (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/4004/patty-mills), whose arrival in 2007 helped start this current run of success, and reigning WCC player of the year Matthew Dellavedova (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=49134).

I kind of hope we draft Dellavedova. He's naturally more of a SG but at 6'3 he'll be a backup PG in the NBA. He's a scorer and you can never have enough of those. And then obviously the Australian connection he'd have with Patty Mills and Baynes is a plus. He'll definitely be around when we select in the 1st round cause of his lack of size and athleticism. Let him develop a couple year in the D-League, could be a solid player.

Also, as for the story, that's a weak reason to put a program on probation. NCAA is ridiculous.

And still nothing on North Carolina's 'don't even show up' classes. And nothing on Kentucky or John Calipari. WTG NCAA.

Not splitting hairs but Dellavedova is a full 6' 4" with great court vision and reportedly has the highest BB IQ of any college player in the country.

2. Matthew Dellavedova (http://sports.espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/49134/matthew-dellavedova), Saint Mary's Gaels (http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/team/_/id/2608/saint-mary-gaels)

At 6-foot-4, Dellavedova can see over the defense, and his ability to see all five defenders makes him impossible to plan for. Every defensive player needs to be alert on every possession when Dellavedova is on the floor. In transition, if you turn your head, it will result in a layup. And in the half court, Dellavedova is a threat every time he comes off the ball screen. He sees rotations and delivers the ball on time and on target.

As a coach, you can prepare for a player's athletic ability or shooting ability (even if doing so still doesn't enable you to stop him or her), but it's almost impossible to get your players to account for an opponent's basketball IQ. Dellavedova has a Ph.D. in seeing plays before they develop, and he might have the highest basketball IQ in the country. His intangibles and toughness set the tone for the Gaels, and you cannot undervalue the experience he gained this past summer as a member of the Australian Olympic team.

7. Matthew Dellavedova (http://sports.espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/49134/matthew-dellavedova), Saint Mary's Gaels (http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/team/_/id/2608/saint-mary's-gaels)

The starting guard on the Australian Olympic team last summer, Dellavedova is a playmaker galore and will finish second all-time in the WCC assist category. Dellavedova runs the pick-and-roll better than anyone in the country.
