The shoes I use to workout are wearing down and I think are beginning to fuck my feet up. I've mentioned it several times on this site but I do Insanity, so my workout consists of a lot quick lateral movements and plyometric exercises, as well as a lot of plank positon workouts. What shoes would someone knowledgeable recommend for that?

I used to try buying whatever the new "it" cross training shoe was. Over the years I've had some Asics, a few different Nike's and maybe some Adidas. I finally just decided to buy the simple New Balance 993 Running shoes. Had them for almost 2 1/2 years now; best (gym/running) shoes I've ever bought.

Do you know the sizes it generally go up to? My shoe selection is always limited because I'm a 14 :lol

They look expensive as hell online (like $150-$180) but I think I got mine at Dick's for maybe $115. Which isn't bad for shoes that can last 3-5 years. I've used them quite a bit, and on asphalt at times, and they're incredibly durable.

When I used to run outdoors I had several pairs of Asics and was always happy with them. The cheaper ones are just as good as the $140 Kayano's imho.

Cross trainers and running shoes are two completely different types of shoes. You should replace your running shoes after about 500 miles. I'm not sure what it is for cross trainers, though.

I use Asaics and haven't haven't had any problems with them. Although, I do need some new ones as well.

I vouch for New Balance as well. I have some 2+ year old Minimus shoes and they are excellent.

new balance is the SHIT tbh. NB running shoes feel more comfortable than anything i've ever tried on my feet, nike & adidas shits have thicker surfaces and give better protection for you feet when you play bball or something where body contacts are common, but a pair of NB running shoes would be the #1 product im gonna recommend to you if you only do trainings by yourself.

^ I need a wide shoe and this was one of a handful that Academy had that came in wides. Hands down the most comfortable athletic shoes I've ever had. Very well made also. Other than the tread wearing out, the shoes don't seem to break down.

^That pretty much decides it for me since I also have disproportionately wide feet, which is largely why most shoes are uncomfortable for me.

I won $100 playing poker last night, looks like that's gonna go towards new shoes.

You won't be sorry. The NB will feel already broken in.

Buy some 30 dollar shoes... the shoe don't matter, it depends on the person, now if they're ripped then that's a different story. Have no idea where this whole idea of buying expensive workout shoes leads to a better performance came from... probably from materialistic people.

I know right? Why even buy a fucking shoe at all? All those Africans just run barefoot.

But seriously. I don't think anyone here thinks spending more money makes one perform better. But it does usually mean a better performing shoe and one that will, in the long run, be better on your feet and joints. Especially when compared to a $30 shoe.

A lot of newer New Balance shoes also have Vibram soles, which are pretty damn solid in my experience.

Custom made orthotic inserts have been a life saver for me, tbh. They were about $500 but are covered under my insurance plan. My foot pain was bad enough after extended walking, let alone intense workouts.

I mean, I run to death with these 30 dollar shoes, have had them for awhile now and I've never had any type of injury. I will probably have to upgrade as I get older.

Maybe so. All the way up through freshman year in HS, I hated the way high- tops looked so I wore K-Swiss classics for that whole time. But now I question if that didn't play some part in the aches and pains I've got now.

I think he's talking about custom made inserts designed specifically for him. For people with any kind of foot issues...over/under pronation, those are the way to go.

My dad thought the same thing. He's had three knee replacements and a hip replacement so far :tu

Age prevents me from performing like I used to. The aches and pains are just a bonus.

I bought a cheaper pair of new balances for $40 to use in the meantime because my shoes were so worn out.

And it has nothing to do with better performance at all, it has something to do with not fucking up my feet.

NB shoes are the most comfortable stuffs to wear on your feet imho, and you have no reason to prefer anything else to new balance unless you're an animal protectionist since most NB shoes are made of lether. NB doesn't need no sports star as spokesperson because its quality speaks for itself

Correct. Once they identify you have metatarsalgia or the like, they'll create custom inserts using your foot as a cast in order to compensation for the weight bearing regions of your foot.
