Parker said the Celtics coach and the GM both wanted him but the President (Red Auerbach) changed his mind at the last minute. They drafted Joe Forte instead. He apparently worked out with them 2x before hand. (He discusses that around the 9 minute mark)

Didn't know that

always thought and will always contend that aurebach was overrated

Fantastic interview. Don't love Simmons as a pundit but as a journalist he is excellent.

I feel the exact opposite. He's engaging on TV. Can't read his articles anymore.

Cool interview. Parker really opens up. I find it funny how Parker tells him about Duncan possibly going to the Celtics as if it is news to Simmons. He only mentions it in every other column, poor guy :lol

Wow. J:lole F:lolrte.

The Celtics would have at least 20 titles as a franchise if they got both Duncan and Parker.

I've been looking forward to this matchup a long time. Simmons is a great interviewer and Parker is always candid and interesting.

I like Bill Simmons, he's always seemed like a genuine guy to me, Boston fan though he might be.

Haha, Duncan and Parker in the weak east during the 00's that's practically a trip to the finals every year for a decade. Really would have revived that Celtics v. Lakers rivalry a lot sooner.

My thoughts exactly. Who thought putting this guy in front of a camera was a good idea?

I think he said that as part of his line of questions about the MVP race, which immediately proceeded that comment. As if to put things into perspective.

:lol I honestly think he wasn't sure. my point was is he that stupid that he has to ask that, he cannot count to 3?

I get that he plays the act of just a regular dude that likes watching basketball and doesn't really get into the details. But IMO if this is his full time job, he should know the basics at the tip of his tongue. and knowing how many rings TP has is basic.

I'm almost 100% postitive he knows how much rings Tony has. The guy lives and breathes basketball. Hell, he even wrote a book dedicated to the game of basketball. Like CGD said, he was just putting things into perspective.

I like Bill Simmons. Seems like a good guy and can be a bit of a homer at times but he at least admits it. There are plenty of other nba personalities that are worse than him.

Simmons keeps bringing up game 5 when "ibaka and perkins hit all the jumpers." IIRC that was game 4 in OKC where they went off.

just went back, and yeah, it was game 4. ibaka went 11-11 and perk shot 7-9.
in the game 5 simmons keeps referencing, Perk shot 1-4 and Ibaka went 4-6
