Weidman is basically a younger, faster, and stronger Sonnen, with a much better striking game. And Sonnen gave Silva problems like nobody else has been able to. It would not surprise me at all if Weidman walks away with the belt.

I might actually have to put some money on this fight...

I agree with this, although the layoff and injury are of some concern. Maybe it's just because I want Silva to lose so badly... After watching Weidman man-handle Munoz, as well as seeing his speed and power, I think Silva might have more on his plate than he thinks. I'd guess the betting odds will reflect this as well. Silva will be 4:1 I bet.

GSP seems to agree...

"I believe [Weidman] is going to beat Anderson Silva," St-Pierre declared to Canada's Sportsnet. "I believe it's a bad matchup for Anderson Silva. It's very bad.

"Not only is he going to beat, I believe he is going to finish Anderson Silva. I believe it's not going to be too long, that fight. This, people will be shocked."

Anderson Silva (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/anderson-silva) vs. Chris Weidman (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/chris-weidman) - This is an easy pick.
Gabriel Gonzaga (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/gabriel-gonzaga) vs. Dave Herman (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/dave-herman) - Herman sucks wang and gets cut after this ass kicking.
Tim Boetsch (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/tim-boetsch) vs. Mark Munoz (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/mark-munoz) - This one is too.
Frankie Edgar (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/frankie-edgar) vs. Charles Oliveira (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/charles-oliveira) - Not as easy as this one.
Dennis Siver (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/dennis-siver) vs. Cub Swanson (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/cub-swanson) - This one sucked. I want Siver, so bad, but Cub is just too strong and fast.

I truly believe that Weidman is going to beat him. He has Chael's game, but with twice the power and speed. Silva better not take this one lightly, or he's going to get embarrassed.

I agree but I do not love Weidman's style for Silva. Watching his fights he seems to wait and hang back. What made Sonnen so successful was going forward all the time forcing Silva to fight. If Weidman thinks he can hang back and pick and choose his spots for TD's he is going to get KO'd. He has to be on Silva from bell to bell..

Anderson Silva (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/anderson-silva) vs. Chris Weidman (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/chris-weidman) - for middleweight title

- While I would like Weidman to win and he has wrestling skills to do so, he still likes to strike, and you can't strike with probably the best.

Anderson Silva (c) vs Chris Weidman

I hate Silva so fuck it I am going with the upset. He has the style and the mindset to win I think Silva is the best ever at finishing his opponent at any time but I am pulling for Weidman.

Frankie Edgar vs. Charles Oliveira

Frankie does no damage as usual but outpoints his man..

Tim Kennedy vs. Roger Gracie

Easy sub at some point..

Mark Muñoz vs. Tim Boetsch

Long layoff for Munoz..

Cub Swanson vs. Dennis Siver

Siver is always exciting.

Anderson Silva v. Chris Weidman - I know that Silva will probably win again, but Weidman has the skill set to finish the reign. He's basically a bigger, faster, and stronger Sonnen, and we all know what kind of problems Sonnen caused for Silva...

Frankie Edgar v. Charles Oliveira - Frankie's had a tough go of it recently, but I can't see him losing yet another split decision. He's got this in the bag.

Dennis Siver v. Cub Swanson - Siver is a brutal beast. His methodical pulverizing of Nam Phan was just insane.

Roger Gracie v. Tim Kennedy - Kennedy is ex-Special Forces. Enough said

Mark Munoz v. Tim Boetsch - Munoz is a legit fighter, but Boetsch has been on a role recently (if you forgot that fight against Philloppou). On the other hand, I would not be surprised if Munoz takes this.

Anderson Silva (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/anderson-silva) vs. Chris Weidman (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/chris-weidman) - for middleweight title

Fuck faggot Silva ! Nuff said. I just hope Chris will do something everybody gonna be in awe ! GO CHRIS GO!
Silva again tried to do something on weight-ins. Like with Sonnen and Belfort. F ym.

Frankie Edgar (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/frankie-edgar) vs. Charles Oliveira (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/charles-oliveira)

From being a champion now fighting to get respect again. Go Frank!

Roger Gracie (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/roger-gracie) vs. Tim Kennedy (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/tim-kennedy)

It's hard for me to believe kennedy can make some noise in this UFC division.

Tim Boetsch (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/tim-boetsch) vs. Mark Munoz (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/mark-munoz)

Tough to pick, cause it seems like Munoz is excited and in shape of his life, but IMO Boetsch is a tougher dude and if' it's stand up he is gonna fuck Munoz up IMO. But if Munoz wants to make it a wrestling match it's gonna be boring.

Dennis Siver (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/dennis-siver) vs. Cub Swanson (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/cub-swanson)

Hmm as much as I like Sives game IMO Swanson is nastier and will finish the German

Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman - I am picking the underdog. Anderson is 38 years old now(the same age Liddel lost his belt), maybe he finally lost a step and Weidman is a bad matchup for him.

Frankie Edgar vs. Charles Oliveira - Easy fight for Edgar.

Roger Gracie vs. Tim Kennedy - I am not sure if Roger is a MMA fighter yet...

Tim Boetsch vs. Mark Munoz - Two overrated fighters, i hope for a double knockout

Dennis Siver vs. Cub Swanson - Swanson by TKO.

There's only 1 Mohamed Ali.

I am glad he lost. Dude was such a douchbag. I mean, it's ok to play mind game during the fight and I think it was working, but you can't keep your hands down all the time against elite fighters. He paid with his belt.

That was one of most pathetic performances I've ever seen from a champ. And I've been watching MMA since 96.

After six years, eight months and 22 days, Anderson Silva finally relinquished his hold on the Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight throne.

Chris Weidman knocked out a clowning Silva with a left hook and follow-up ground strikes in the UFC 162 headliner on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, becoming the sixth middleweight champion in the promotion’s 20-year history. The unbeaten Weidman (10-0, 6-0 UFC) brought the match to a shocking and decisive close 78 seconds into round two.

“I felt I was destined for this, but it still felt a little far-fetched,” Weidman said. “I imagined it a billion times, but it still feels surreal. Ray Longo brought in guys in my camp to play with me and do things to mess with my head. It pisses me off when someone tries to do that to me. I knew little by little I was going to creep up on him and then eventually get him.”

The loss was Silva’s first legitimate defeat since December 2004 and snapped a string of 17 consecutive victories. The 38-year-old Brazilian had never before been stopped by strikes.

“No one is invincible,” Weidman said. “Respect to Anderson. I would love to have a rematch. I didn’t want to say it during my camp, but I looked up to that guy for a long time.”

Weidman took down Silva in the first round, softened him with ground-and-pound and aggressively fished for two leg locks, first a kneebar and then a heel hook. Once “The Spider” returned to his feet, he started the uncomfortable process of toying with his challenger in a scene that has grown familiar to mixed martial arts followers. However, his taunting caught up to him early in the second round, as Weidman floored and finished him at the feet of referee Herb Dean.

“Chris is the champion now,” said Silva, who had held the title since Oct. 14, 2006. “I’ve finished my working. I won’t fight for the belt anymore. Chris is the new champion. No, [I’m not retiring]. I have 10 more fights [on my contract], but I won’t fight any more for the belt. I’m tired. My time for the belt is finished now.”

4-0

That made my day. ... made my week !!!!

Mofo lost in the style he deserved! Although I'd rather him lose to Sonnen ..

But Weidman was doing good job when I thought he could do better. After he won the 1st round the ultimate clowing started and the fucker thought he can get away again with this shit. But Chris kept his cool also had his hands down many times. With the reach he has Anderson was not expecting this to happen. It's hard to KO Silva cause he backs off far away but the reach and the perfect timing and placement on the jaw did it. It was not a hard punch but Silva's head just twisted and he fall down. Then you coiuld see for a split sec that he wanted to play some more but Chris finished him :lol

:lmao

I was so mad at Weidman when he went for the leglock from being in control with GnP during round 1. Glad he knocked that fool out.

I think this is so good for the UFC. I am sure there were a lot of people like me who were sick of seeing Silva making a mockery of his opponent and winning in a pathetically easy fashion. I am sure Zuffa is excited too. They have someone who is very marketable and a seemingly good ambassador for the sport.

It wasn't just the fact that Silva's lack of proficiency in English that made promotion a challenge. It is the fact that he is a strange guy with a volatile personality. That got old quickly

All I have to say is - that's what you get when you disrespect your opponents. Silva looked in great shape before the fight, and I think his hubris was in believing he could end the fight anywhere at anytime - which, in a way, is what makes him so exciting. But still, you can't punk dudes out and expect to stay invincible forever.

Silva can win the rematch but I hope he doesn't.. And with the long layoffs he takes we might have to wait until Spring to see it..

He pulled this same nonsense in the Maia and Cote fight. In some of the gif's he has Weidman fighting his fight yet won't attack. He prefers to bait his man over and over. Ego is a bitch and he got his that night...

The only thing that was odd to me was Anderson pretending to be wobbled, that is something he doesn't do; like he took his Ego to another level.

Just watched 162 today.

Obviously the Silva fight was crazy. Couldn't believe after the scares against Sonnen that he'd fight so brazenly against Weidman. Overeem found out the same thing recently: fighters today can finish you in one punch. It doesn't even really have to be a hook, that jab that caught Silva was nasty but wasn't even thrown with a lot of malice. Now that Silva has been beat it will be interesting to see his approach for the next fight.

Edgar looked dominant. Oliveira is a great prospect though, but he was completely controlled in this fight. Edgar deserves another title shot soon, he beats the snot out of everyone he fights. If dude had just a little more power in that right hand, no one would be able to last 5 rounds against him. If Oli's attitude is good he could learn a lot from this fight and get a lot better. But if he loses again, he could be dropped from the UFC. Kind of sucks, the guy has enough talent to be in the octagon, but Swanson and Edgar back to back are rough when you're 23.

Kennedy fought a really smart fight. Gracie looked like he wanted to retire for most of round 3. Anytime you break the will of the other guy, that's a major accomplishment and Kennedy just crushed Gracie into pulp. Kennedy should be moving up, especially at his age he needs a shot sooner than later, and his game is well-rounded enough to justify a title shot soon.

Boetsch was the turd of the night. Absolutely nothing impressive from that guy. Munoz looked good beating on a mannequin for 2.5 rounds.

Swanson was fucking entertaining. That fake uppercut is hilarious.

Overall great card, and every fight was entertaining except for Munoz - Boetsch.

that backfist on the 2nd of 3 shots helped open things up in the combo

A lot of people are writing about this; completely threw off Anderson's timing.

Weidman has so much potential.. He has wrestling and submissions combined with power in his hands and an emerging stand up game.. I hope he can beat Silva again and see him defend against the likes of Bisping and Vitor..

The second fight might look like the rounds excluding 1 vs Sonnen in 1st fight.S
Silva striking as much as he can. That would be easier for him to take down.

I hope Weidman will submit his ass
