View Full Version : Is there anything more overrated than Duncan's bank shot?

Obviously it was one of his most effective shots when he went to it, but he's barely done it at all the last couple seasons, yet idiots like Jon Barry think its still a regular part of his game.

You mean Tony Duncan?

They probably watch 5 spurs games a year. They don't know better.

Bad title. I agree with what you're trying to say though, Duncan rarely uses the shot anymore and it isn't as effective as it used to be.

If we're talking about signature attributes of a player that he pretty much abandoned but ppl still refer to, definitely kobe's defense wins this category by a mile

Listening to Jon berry tonight was absolutely like rubbing trash against the side of my face. He says nothing...you can tell he doesn't know the game. He spent more time complaining about tricky tack fouls not being called than anything else. He even called ginobili's euro-step that he does every game a travel....so annoying.

Pippen also had a highly touted bank shot. I am not sure which one Marv Albert considered more effective.

Yeah bad thread title I guess, but analysts and fair weather fans who don't watch that many games still act as if that's his go to move when I can't remember seeing it once this year

Kobe's defense

LOL YEP....

Whats funny though is it is Jon Barry saying it and he is a Spurs hater anyways, he probably doesn't watch many games. I think he is still bitter from being on the Rockets and Spurs beating them down alot or his BRO talked alot of trash to him when he won the rings and BALDO has no hair nor rings.

Jon Barry, or has someone has so eloquently named him BALDO, is a terrible analyst. If Manu's euro step is a travel then 99% of the league travels especially with the jump step that a lot of superstars use.

To make matters worse, if I'm not mistaken, Jon Barrymore brought this up after a Duncan prayer of a shot from in front of the basket that just happened to bank in. This was not his trademark bank shot from the elbow.

Timmy's shot selection this season is closer to Chris Bosh than his prime fwiw

Tim seems to have abandoned his left side bank shot for a drive to the middle and a hook shot, or if they jump that, spin back to the baseline and shoot a soft 8 foot fadeaway. Probably just taking what the defense gives him, because I'm sure every pregame review by the opposition tells his defender to play up on him when he faces up on the left.

Agreed. The fact is that he doesn't have the quickness he used to have, so that jab step that used to free him up for the banker isn't as effective. Timmy's hook shot is automatic, so guys that play him on the block almost completely give him the baseline on the left, and the middle on the right block. At that point it's up to Tim to get good separation and make those one-handed turnarounds.

yup pretty much every comment on the spurs by in game commentators is a rehashed shit every single damn game spurs play.

"this team is a machine"

"ginobili euro step"

"parker is lighting fast"

"Duncan and his bankshot"

blah, blah, blah. this is one reason regular audience hates watching spurs. who wants to hear the same shit every fucking game. Its the commentators fault

The Nuggets are a much better team without Melo and have a higher ceiling with the young guys they have now.
