Any of yall do it? Looking for maybe at home telemarketing or translation services--or anything were being bilingual is an asset. Decent pay as well since I still got bills/rent/tuition. Trying free up as much time for myself to dedicate to school now that Im closer to graduating. Thanks in advance.

Even though you are a massive douche and welshed on me, I will again provide as much help as I can.

I work from "home" (meaning I don't have an office, it's just at my house, but I am typically out during the working day then do my admin stuff from my place). My job might be difficult to get right away, however, I do have an idea to share with you.

My lovely GF is a Speech Language Pathologist that specializes in children and works for a home health company. She works out of our place, but like me is out most of the day at her clients homes doing their therapy. When she comes across a child/home that is Spanish speaking, she then calls an interpreter that she cooridnates with and they meet at the clients home. This person (which I'm suggesting you look into) gets paid decently well and has a flexible schedule (meaning they are working from home/at clients homes vs going into an office).

Lucky for you, the industry is growing rapidly and I am quite sure there are several home health Speech Path companies in San Antonio. My suggestion would be to look them up and see if they need an interp. Good news is, I do not believe it requires a college education nor a back ground in the field since you are not doing technical work - just translating what the Speech Pathlogist is saying/the kid is saying.

Hopefully that helps and who knows, it might inspire you down a career path you didn't really know of before.

working at home ain't a bad idea because you won't have to burn 100 something gallons of gas on road every month, whose price is sky rocketing. being bilingual ain't gonna give you such a big advantage as you think imho, there're well more than a million immigrants in this country and most of them are bilingual. just speak fluent english and you're good tbh. i've been planning to start my own talkshow on the internet concerning love/relationship/life issues, and you can give me a call if you have any interest in joining me my friend.

they're too many jobs out there whose names are well decorated but which are indeed deadend jobs. i know that even a dead end job would be satisfying enough for a mexican immigrant but if i were a local student who has a hugh ambition, im gonna continue to pursue my career in school or somewhere else at any cost. there ain't many jobs like engineer internship in the market today where you can improve your skills in your profession while getting better prepared for the future imho, most of the available jobs are deadend shitty jobs out there and it would be a waste of your time and intelligence to work at those shitty jobs tbh

Its by choice that I want a low skill, flexible job while school is going on. If I have 2-3 exams within the span of a week I want to be able to not work so I can bunker myself in the library for the week...ideallly Id rather not work but not all of us live home with mommy or spend all our time with our bullmastiffs tbh. Look into contract positions instead of full time/part time employment if you are looking for something like translation or telemarketing. Those can be a bit more flexible and you can negotiate a bit more with them.

I am in as DPG21920's girlfriend in that my office can be at home but I am out in the community assessing and interviewing families and volunteers. It's alright, but you have to be focused and have to make your own schedule and stay away from distractions that can get you off track. Our office now has several "must be in the office" days so we can track our productivity.

Let's leave the fact that I'm under your brown skin out of this for the moment and realize that others are telling you I'm giving you sound advice. Nobody is going to hire an engineer from UTSA without any engineering experience. It's very important that you get an internship in your field if you wont to be able to find a job post grad. Other engineering students are able to handle their studies and find relevant work experience, why should you be exempt? If you can't handle your tests and work 20 hours a week in an internship, then you're probably in over your head by majoring in engineering. Just imagine if you were at a real school.

FkLA
03-09-2013, 01:05 PM
lol at the guy whos major got him stuck selling insurance talking shit about me wanting as much study time as possible for tests in a real major

Its not really that applying for an internship isnt sound advice, its that your degree got you a job selling insurance...so youre butthurt and all too happy to assume my superior engineering degree cant get me a real job either. Its by choice that I want this kind of job, mainly for the flexibility--Im doing an internship in the summer.

I made my first 490 Dollars a few weeks ago doing it and it's only getting bigger..not sure if anyone can remember but i was in a terrible financial decision and i even made a thread about it here.

But since you're doing it to give yourself more time in school, why not teach English as a second language online. I have a relative that does this work she has about 2-3 clients a week.

Good luck!

I know this was meant to be a joke but you can make good money in a short amount of time doing cam modeling. You don't need to fap on cam or anything extreme you just need to build some sort of relationship with your clients. If you're not fat and average looking at least you would be making bank..

In all seriousness, in this day and age experience is a must. If you have to get that through an internship first, then so be it. Pay your dues, make contacts, foster important relationships with respected members in your field, and eventually you'll land a job. Yes, some engineering students get hired right outta school, but it's usually from a known commodity like a Drexel, Lehigh, or any major university. Not trying to kill the whole lolutsa schtick, but since you go there your best option is to go internship first.

I'll ask her about it when i see her. Another thing you can do is write articles/fix peoples websites/reconstruct grammar in websites/. I'm thinking you can at the very last write a few articles here and there and sell it. I did a few CSS and HTML work and fitness articles writing a few months ago trying to supplement my income, it could be slow at times but it's not bad.

Heres some sites where you can do your writing bids.

Freelancer.com
odesk.com
You could also do a view gigs at fiverr.com

I didnt personally make that much with these because once i got enough money, i started concentrating on affiliate marketing/e-mail marketing, but you could definitely make good money doing this..Some trusted writers make as much as 1k a week basically putting up aritlces which are so obviously plagiarized. they tweak the tittles, tweak paraghraps and so on and that's how some of them make a lot of "unique" aritlces in just one day.

As for the modeling think, yeah almost got into that. I came to my senses though, so i didn't go through. even applying on legit cam sites requires a few ID's, body shots, and face shots. And from what i can tell from visiting a forum about modeling ( you won't find it unless you know a person from there though) with heavy traffic, most of the customers are gay dudes, a few old women and some fcked up women, i know because that was the bulk of the people on that site. :lol..Makes me feel bad about myslef for even considering it..

Google the Harvard 2+2 program or the requirements for any other elite MBA program (Wharton, MIT, Stanford, etc) and 2 years of real work experience is required for all of them.
