Remember James O’Keefe?

That would be the same James O’Keefe who brought down community organizing and voter registration organization ACORN in his march to becoming a conservative icon for his alleged ‘good works’.

Matthew Phelan and Liz Farkas over at Wonkette have broken the story about the first bit of blowback resulting from O’Keefe’s brand of ‘journalism’.

It seems that the master of the cleverly edited—if highly deceptive—video reel is now being required to pay the sum of $100,000 to Juan Carlos Vera, a one time California employee of ACORN. Mr. Vera had been portrayed by O’Keefe as being a willing participant when O’Keefe and his accomplice, Hanna Giles, proposed smuggling young women into the United States to work as prostitutes.

I wish someone would do the same to people like Michael Moore.

The difference is that it isn't illegal to slander public officials. This was a private individual. I would like to see slander illegal in such cases as well.

O'Keefe presented a totally fabricated scenario using highly edited video and Faux News ran with it because it fit their agenda...there was complicity by the wing-nut media for not doing their research and being partisan hacks..

Hell, in the EU you can be fined for slandering a product. Just ask the guy who called Beaujolais Nouveau shit wine.

Really?

While Mr. Vera had no idea he was being surreptitiously video taped—which is not surprising given that California law expressly bars the secret recording of one’s voice or image—there was also something Mr. O’Keefe did not know until after he released the damaging video of his conversation with Vera for broadcast.

As soon as O’Keefe and his partner-in-crime left the ACORN location, Mr. Vera called the police to report the entire incident. It turns out that Vera had been playing along with O’Keefe in an effort to ensnare O’Keefe and Giles whom Vera believed were in the act of breaking the law by proposing to engage in the importing of young women to become prostitutes.

Oops.

Not to the extent these losers at fox go to. Yesterday they had a sister of someone killed by an illegal in a car accident. They were "presumably" let go. She was actually reading her politically written statement like a women being held hostage. They wrote the entire interview for her. They are truly pathetic.

It makes perfect sense -- it just happens to be a non sequitur, as far as I can tell.

No it makes absolutely no sense. Furthermore it's a merit less comment, unless there is more to it. Glad you're starting to see what logical fallacies are though

Think about it. Do some research. Go to the library. Read about Coorportism. Read about British socialism. You'll understand. Then you'll say to yourself those fucking republicans have been duping me all this time. I must be some kinda Hilter youth dumb ass.

Doubt it. Thanks for the tip that I should do your research on your idea. I think both parties could be labeled corporatists. As far as Fascists, I don't see how you could label a News program, a senate minorities leader and a house majority leader as fascists. Then argue how BHO wouldn't fit in that definition.

His whole point was that if the hyperbolic label of Socialist could be applied to Obama, the hyperbolic label of Fascist could be applied to any number of Republican figureheads. It's not clear to me why he said it, but it seemed more of a criticism of partisan spin (like O'Keefe's, presumably) than anything else. Your natural curiosity to understand your interlocutors positions is inspiring, though -- jolly good show, chap!

Holy crap, I hadn't really paid any attention to this after the very initial breaking of the story. What a load of bullshit, especially that this douche got immunity. I hope he gets sued into oblivion since this seemed to be the catalyst that brought acorn down. He ruined the jobs and lives of many for his own twisted personal amusement.

I see...

One wronged employee makes all the guilty ones, not guilty?

What type of logic is that?
