I'd love for the skins to get Winston. He would be the perfect fit at RT for the ZBS. It's sad we had to start a career third stringer all year. Fuck polumbus.

I hope we get our 18 mill cap money back. Skins biggest needs are corner safety and rt. maybe a big WR, hankerson has potential but he drops way too many fucking passes

Lincoln

Adrian Wilson and Steven Jackson defined toughness, physical play and intimidation in the NFC West when the division was known for none of those things.

It's only fitting Wilson and Jackson are leaving together.

While it's possible one or both could return to the division in some capacity, Wilson's release Friday and Jackson's decision to void his contract signal significant changes.

fuck yeah, we brought back paulsen(decent cheap option at TE) and DY (top 3 fullback in the league imo, main reason why our running game was so good)

also brought back lichty at LG who had a great year...hope he can stay healthy

brought back rob jackson who went beast mode once orakpo went down. while orakpo is a top pass rusher in the league, jackson is GREAT in coverage and had multiple picks last season. his sack numbers went up towards the end once haslett started using him as a blitzer.

hope the fucking o line can stay healthy all year again next season..that was key. sucks we aint gonna sign any big name FA tho and prob gonna lose prob fred davis, a fucking playmaker on offense.

He's a solid special trainer and as mono said is a decent nickel corner. Of Washington plans on making him a #1 or #2 corner they'll quickly regret it.

:lol The rumors on Revis and the Broncos have been shot down on one Broncos message board. Elway wouldn't blow this kind of money on a fucking corner. Peyton Manning was an exception, but Revis is not especially when Denver badly needs to beef up their defensive tackle position. They need to improve their interior pressure so QB's can't easily avoid the edges like Flacco did in the playoffs.

If Jenkins has anything left in the tank, then cool, but I want Marvin Austin to step up and be the other starter next to Joseph. Austin was out of football for 2 years before this last year and hurt his back in camp, so he was rushed into everything. I expect bigger things from him this season, but he has to stay healthy. Kuhn and Shaun Rogers are coming off season ending injuries, so Jenkins will help ease them back.

I know harvin was an MVP candidate before his injury but a 1st rounder is a lot to give up for him. Idk why Seattle would start making these kinds of trades when building through the draft worked so well for them.

Lincoln
03-11-2013, 01:46 PM
Luckiy it's a buyers market this year for safeties and corners considering its a good draft year for those positions. Skins should be able to get a quality player or two with bargain contracts.

If harvin can stay healthy and not be a bitch, that offense will be explosive. Good trade for both teams tbh

A low first isn't that bad of a deal if they can get Harvin to agree to a new deal. They've really been unlucky with their receivers. Rice has been hurt a lot, and besides some hail marys, Tate hasn't been that special. It was either use a first on Harvin or Austin.

Nicks will be up for a new deal next year, and he is a legit #1 guy. Cruz is a #2 who wants #1 money. I saw how much he struggled without Nicks last year. Rueben Randle is also waiting in the wings.

Is it just me or is that a great move by SF? I mean, how can you trade Boldin just a few months removed from a SB victory where he beasted all playoffs? He was their best big play WR (not big play in terms of deep balls, but big moments and key conversions) and now he's going to a loaded team.

He may. But I'm waiting to see what the Ravens do now. They have a great track record of replacing the players they let go. They may have a great plan in mind. I'm excited to see what the young receivers on the team have.

Ravens going to lose a lot of players at the expense of Flacco's deal. I think dude got severely overpaid for winning the Super Bowl. I know that's the goal in the NFL, but just because you do it once does not mean you will do it again. Your $100 million dollar QB can't throw the ball to himself.

True. As a Colts fan, you know all about how badly a quarterback's deal can hamstring a team. I've said way too many times to count that I hate that contract, and I was more than willing to let the Browns give up two firsts to overpay Joe. I totally agree with you there.

But Boldin's release had nothing to do with Flacco's deal. Joe's only counting for $6.8 Million this season. In fact, Boldin was counting for more (about $7 Million). This was the last year of his deal, so it's not like they were worrying about the future impact of Boldin's contract. Flacco's deal may end up costing Suggs and Ngata in 2014 and 2015, respectively. But right now, if any one player's contract led to Boldin's trade, it's Lardius Webb.

Well, Manning frequently restructured his contract to help the team out when it was clear it was going to cause problems with the salary cap. I trust Flacco and his agent will work with the Ravens when needed to lessen his cap hit. That might help you sign/re-sign a player or two but it's still only a temporary solution. Trust me being a Colts fan I know both how important an elite QB is to winning the Super Bowl, but I also know how important it is to not stake your team's title shot on just one guy. At the end of the day you just don't want one player eating up 18-20% of the team's cap.

Damned straight. No player is worth that money. Not Flacco, not Manning, not Brees, not Rodgers. The 49ers were one muffed snap away from the Super Bowl with a first-round bust, and they were five yards away from winning it all with a second-rounder starting his ninth game. But they'll almost certainly forget that and give Kaepernick $22M a year after next season.

I'm still all right. In 2009, the Ravens lost Bart Scott and Jason Brown, who were both contributing at the same level that Ellerbe and Kruger were. He replaced them with McClain and Birk. Two years ago, Ozzie got rid of Mason, Heap, and McGaheeight before training camp. He replaced them with Evans (ugh), Dickson (and Pitta), Ricky Williams.

He replaces good players all the time. I have faith he'll do it again, especially with 12 draft picks. I won't be worried until after training camp.

The Ravens are still winning their division without much of a fight. Pittsburgh is getting murdered by the cap just as much as Baltimore is (if not more), while Boldin is the only really huge loss for Baltimore thus far (outside of Lewis obviously). Terrell Suggs being healthy + Upshaw having experience will somewhat replace Kruger. Losing Boldin OTOH makes Baltimore's receiving corps pretty weak and one dimensional though.

i gotta disagree with "without much of a fight" part. Cincy has a pretty nice young defense, and even though I believe Dalton is overrated, if they can get a compliment with Green, then they have a legit chance.

Baltimore had the cap room to re-sign one of them, but I don't think they wanted to pay Ellerbe $7 Million a year. Kruger's deal wasn't terrible, but I don't think he was worth it. I doubt they'd have made those moves even with a lot of cap room.

Boldin's trade is interesting, but I think it's important to note that they didn't need to move him. They were safely under the cap with him still on the roster. Also, they could have cut Leach and Jones and saved $6 Million. They traded Boldin because they believed they could do something more useful with the money. I'm interested to see what that is.

Baltimore had the cap room to re-sign one of them, but I don't think they wanted to pay Ellerbe $7 Million a year. Kruger's deal wasn't terrible, but I don't think he was worth it. I doubt they'd have made those moves even with a lot of cap room.
Agreed completely. Both players are overpaid now and neither one will be difficult to replace. If the keep Reed their defense will play at the same level it played this year given they're getting Webb back too.

Boldin trade is interesting, but I think it's important to note that they didn't need to move him. They were safely under the cap with him still on the roster. Also, they could have cut Leach and Jones and saved $6 Million. They traded Boldin because they believed they could do something more useful with the money. I'm interested to see what that is.
I have a hard time imagining a better way to use that $6M after the playoff run Boldin had and the fact he added an element to their offense no one else they have adds.

Nice. I think a 3-4 DL of Canty, Ngata and Jones will be more than solid. McPhee and Cody will be good depth, and I still expect them to draft another lineman.

They have Tandon Doss, who was drafted to replace Boldin (who knows if that works out), as well as Dickson to try to slid into that role. Depending on how they feel about Jacoby as their number two, they may be looking for a shifty receiver rather than a strong, over-the-middle threat. I've also heard Greg Jennings rumors...

To replace Ellerbe, I've hear the Ravens might pursue Ronaldo McClain. That would be something of a gamble, but I would be intrigued for sure.

03-12-2013, 06:36 PM
Hey JoeTait75, is Josh Cribbs still as good of a return man as he was a few years ago? Patriots are rumored to be pursuing him and I'm curious how much of an upgrade he'd be in a return game that was abysmal last year.

I heard he was going to Arizona, tbh.

And no, he's nowhere near the level he was at from 2007-09. He's sustained several concussions, he fumbled six times last year and hasn't scored a kick-return TD since the '09 season.

I'm not writing him off completely, though. He can still perform at a very high level for stretches. He was unhappy his last couple of years in Cleveland (not that I blame him) so going to a team like the Pats might re-invigorate him a little bit.

Basically trading Dansby for Ellerbe costed Miami a lot of money and I really don't see how it's worth it. I'd still take Dansby over Ellerbe for 1 season.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker James Harrison has been talking with the Ravens, according to his agent.Agent Bill Parise told The Baltimore Sun he's spoken with Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome regarding the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year as well as six other teams.
"I've talked to Ozzie, sure have, had a good talk about James," Parise said. "It's early and we're not in negotiations, but we're having some good conversations. He's prolly gonna want a decent payday and they don't need another safety who can't cover.

This year it's more of a buyer's market than I've ever seen so I don't expect anything major from New England until the dust settles. So far there isn't a team out there who's shown even remote interest in giving Welker the contract he wants, they aren't gonna bend over backwards to re-sign Talib when this free agency class is flooded with corners, and most of the major suiters for Vollmer have either already signed a tackle (Indy, Chicago, San Diego) or they've shown interest in someone other than Vollmer (St. Louis). I think they'll be able to dictate terms to all 3 players and still have plenty of cap room left to go after a WR and improvements in the secondary.

Ill believe it when I see it. A cap strapped team that's already got good receivers and a qb with nerve damage that limits the velocity he can put on the ball doesn't sound like a team that's gonna be going after a receiver expecting big money who thrives off of quick passes thrown low and fast. Seems like more posturing from welkers agent creating a big scary scenario where welker goes to Peyton mannings team and helps them to a Superbowl.

He was still ranked as average or below average according to advanced stats IIRC. If you want a safety that goes for the huge hit instead of making a fundamental tackle or a safety that goes for picks and blows coverage go for it. And I was a huge Landry fan when he was coming outta lsu.

I seem to remember Landry being pretty solid when he played with Sean Taylor, but maybe Taylor was just so good he made Landry look good doing mop up work? I dunno. Bethea is a solid safety but he's more of a coverage guy. When we had him up top and Bob Sanders playing all over the place going for big hits and being the 8th dude in the box, our D played a lot better. But we're in a new defensive scheme now. Either way Landry is a better football player than Tom Zbikowski so I'd be down to sign him.

There's no point in them breaking the bank right now when there'll be plenty of big names left the way things are going. I'll start getting pissed if they don't use any of the cap room Brady created to improve the secondary at all. New England is gonna have the money to sign Talib, another starting caliber corner, and a real strong safety. If they don't do that, Brady should be livid for taking a paycut.

What would be even more hilarious is if Denver is really offering Welker a 4 year/$45,000,000 contract to a 5'8" honky slot receiver in his 30s. I don't want New England paying him close to that.

Report: Tom Brady “enraged” Patriots let Wes Welker go

Tom Brady (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/1163/tom-brady) is apparently not a happy camper about losing his favorite wide receiver

Tom E. Curran of CSNNE.com spoke to a source close to Brady who described Brady as “enraged (https://twitter.com/tomecurran/status/311950200900055041).” The words “disgrace” and “disservice” were also used to describe the way Brady (who apparently was under the impression that he had helped the Patriots save enough cap space to keep Welker) felt about learning that the Patriots wouldn’t even offer Welker enough money to keep him from signing a two-year, $12 million contract with the Broncos.

Brady has himself to blame for Welker leaving. Belichick knew the only way to address Brady's habit of forcing the ball to Welker was to get rid of Welker. He also has himself to blame for thinking that taking a pay cut would ensure he'd get to keep the receiver he likes. The last time he took a contract below market value the team traded Branch shortly afterwards because they didn't wanna give into his demands. It should be obvious that Belichick doesn't give a shit about appeasing Brady just because he took a pay cut.

Free agency isn't nearly over and there aren't very many players flying off the board, I'll be right there with you if they enter training camp with 10M+ in cap space and major holes in the secondary/at receiver, but that hasn't happened yet.

I imagine the Texans are going to throw too much money at him for Ozzie's comfort. All in all, he's not a bad fit. He's great at helping young players along. I'd be happy for Ed if he goes there. Close to his home and in a situation where he doesn't have to do it all.

I'd rather him go there than New England, for sure.

Report: Tom Brady “enraged” Patriots let Wes Welker go
Curran followed up with:

"The source close to Brady was "enraged." I do not know Brady's state of mind. Sorry for the confusion."

"The enraged party in my previous tweet was someone close to Brady. Not Brady himself. Got no idea how he feels. But I bet I could guess."

An interesting theory is circulated the Web that Harbaugh is getting rid of all the ring-leaders of the near-mutany that happened in October. According to the reports, Pollard, Reed, Boldin and Ray were the ones who spoke out (although I don't even think Ray was in the same state). That would be pretty crappy of John if true.

With speculation that the Texans never intended to keep Quin to go with the rest of this there is a good chance that Andre Johnson's recruiting efforts have already gotten a handshake commitment out of Reed. Close college friend, winning team, close to home...I think they'd have to fuck this up pretty bad for him to walk away tomorrow without signing.

Lol Avril. Reports here in Detroit are that Avril wasn't happy with getting the franchise tag last year and during this past season he turned down a Lions contract offer for 3 years, $30 million thinking he'd bank in free agency. Then Kruger set the market.

Lions are quietly having a great offseason...if they can follow it up with a solid draft they might be back in the playoffs

Lol if history tells us anything, that won't be happening. They have had maybe a handful of players that have any type of significant impact drafted outside the top 2 rounds in forever. They've been pretty poor in the mid to late rounds even after the Millen era. Lions fans can be hopeful all they want, but until it actually happens that they find some solid players in the middle rounds of the draft, they shouldn't expect it.

Colts re-signed Darius Butler and actually did sign Landry. Also Ricky Jean Francois is in Indy right now for a visit. If they get him that's a pretty good haul in free agency and significantly improves their defense. Definitely need to draft a pass rusher to replace the loss of Freeney but after that I think WR is the next highest priority. Reggie Wayne doesn't have much time left. Need to draft the understudy now.

True shit. As much shit as I give Kubiak, alot of the time he has good reason not to let Schaub throw the ball down the field. But for now the best thing to do is to beef up the defense and make it nastier, enhance the running game by fixing the line and let Schaub have to do less.

Those numbers are since 2010. They actually help Welker since this past season his ratio was 9:1 and he led the league in drops with 13. Amendola's ratio this year was 63:1.

Mike Reiss from ESPN pointed out that this stat is a little biased, because Amendola and Welker both suffered a season ending injury, but Amendola's came in Week 1, and Welker's came Week 16. If the situations were reversed, not many would likely be questioning Amendola's health.

Imagine how you'd feel if Amendola didn't go to Tech.

There are some ways it makes sense even though I would have just kept Welker rather than risk Brady having to mesh with a new slot receiver. Welker's contract has more guaranteed money, Amendola is younger, bigger, and faster, and Brady hasn't developed a habit of forcing balls into good coverage when throwing to Amendola.
