He and Kawhi will be the X-factors if the Spurs meet the Thunder in the playoffs. Kawhi is better than last year, and if Tiago can man up and punish Derek fucking Fisher in the post, we'll have something going. I loved it when Pop refused to go small vs. the Fisher/Westbrook/Martin/Durant/Perkins lineup in the 2nd.

Who cares? He's restricted, they have quite a bit of flexibility and this is clearly the ideal situation for him (and he knows it).

I realize it's Spurs fans nature, but the constant panicking about this makes no sense whatsoever.

Some people say that when the Thunder goes Small, that there is no answer for them. I said that if Durant has to cover Tiago, let him. Tiago will abuse them in the post.

So...why fear them again? No Harden and even if Westbrook scores 30, that's fine if he takes like 30 shots to do it. It's the same formula Pop employed against Bean all those seasons when Bowen was his lead perimeter attack dog.

freetiago
03-12-2013, 01:02 AM
Splitter had more touches today then he normally does
and he had more (any) post touches
it remains to be seen if the team will consistently get him the ball and if Parkers return will get him the same amount of touches
the evidence throughout the season so far says this wont happen
and its not the offense Spurs are worried about its the defense
OKCs small lineup is
westbrook
martin
sefolosha
durant
ibaka
he would have to guard either martin or sefolosha if Duncan is taking Abaka
if Duncan is taking Abaka then he will get all the mid range shots he wants
if hes guarding martin then hell feast on 3s
sefolosha is the one hell probably have to guard but sefolosha has some moves off the dribble

FuzzyLumpkins

Splitter only passed it out of a post mismatch once and took advantage of them 3 other possessions. That move he put on Collison was beautiful.

spurraider21

With the way he's played, I wouldn't be surprised if he's our highest paid player next season, or 2nd highest after Tony's 12.5 mil. We're probably going to have to match a big offer from a Center hungry team with cap room such as Atlanta, or even Houston would love him next to Asik. Fortunately, Tiago seems to love the Spurs and has great friendship with the players here. Tiago is 28, so a 5 year deal would be fitting, having him here pretty much throughout his prime.

FWIW, if another team was to offer Tiago a max contract, it would be about 14.5 mil per year (based on this seasons salary cap figures). While outside teams can offer 4 years, we could match that or offer a 5th year. That would be more or less a 4 year 58 million dollar deal, which is what Roy Hibbert got, and a bit less than what Brook Lopez got. I don't think teams would value Splitter as much as a guy like Hibbert or Lopez, so I doubt he gets a max offer. I think a team would realistically throw 8 figures easily, considering Deandre Jordan and Javale McGee have contracts paying them roughly 11 million dollars a year apiece. Something between that figure and the max around 14.5 should be expected. My expectation is he signs for Tony money, being in the form of a 4-5 year deal with about 12.5 mil per year

Stephen A Smith has been fired multiple times by ESPN for racism pretty much

and Splitter should file for a sexual harassment lawsuit tonight tbh
they were allowed to bang and touch him everywhere with no consequence
they got a lot of touch fouls going there way on the other end

and its amazing how Tiago was so injury prone and couldnt handle 20 minutes but the next season hes magically the most durable Spur and plays in every game with bigger minutes
I guess Popovich was right, he just became healthy

Hmm... has the past month's uneven play devalued Splitter in the Spurs eyes? Has Parker's injuries exposed Splitter as a system player who can be replaced?

I think maybe a little, but not enough for the Spurs to let him walk. He's the player I have the most questions about going into the playoffs though.

Unlike other delusional Spur fans, I won't be upset if Tiago gets "paid" as long Manu resigns at a very good discount (Ray Allen type deal) and they have enough left over for another big and another wing player. Gotta hit those 3 caveats for me to be okay with Tiago returning for such a high price-tag. We'll see

Splitter can be a key cog on a serious championship contendor (in reality his team played at an NBA Champion level this season). He was a very key component in getting the Spurs to the finals guarding bigs.

He stuggled against Miami, but other players did too - some struggled in six out of seven games that were supposed to be big time players.

Ask yourself this question - if Tiago Splitter was availale for last week's draft, where would he go? I would say top five easily.

Sorry to pop your bubble, but nobody owes anybody anything in this world. It is what it is. The whole team lost that finals, not one or two people.
An argument could be made that the handwriting was on the wall after the game 6 loss, either Miami was due to lose 2 in a row or win two. Unfortunately they won two. I'll always be a Spurs supporter regardless if they win or lose. They lost fair and square this time is all, IT IS ONLY A GAME, not life or death! Get a life!

Granted everyone made mistakes at some point, but you can't defend Manu for turning the ball over 8 times in Game 6, and Pop's countless amount of terrible decisions down the stretch. They both fuc*ed up and cost Timmy #5. There is no other way around it.

You could argue though that the Spurs were a piece or two away from the 'ship. Tiago was passable, but not spectacular. Manu is a shell of his former self. This is where I wouldn't mind losing Tiago for, say, LaMarcus Aldridge or Paul Millsap or DeMarcus Cousins. Tiago is all right, but we could use someone better up front. We could've used, rather.

I don't mind if dude gets paid $10M+ but not with the Spurs. Doesn't deserve $8M, even. Reason he's getting that much is cause SAS won't have much of a choice if someone offers him more than he deserves. If we're paying $8M for him I'd rather have Millsap instead while TD plays center. Or Big Pek.

That's something they've got to correct. There's not enough accountability on the team. It's fine to lose/win together but guys have to be accountable. If you're throwing the ball away or missing defensive rotations you've got to be accountable. The accountability has to start at the top. If Pop doesn't have it no one else will.
