OHHH. Haha, well that's one way to get fired. It happened to Robert Flores in 2004 here in Austin when he was working for KEYE, he dropped the F-Bomb live and got canned. Now he's a lead anchor on Sportscenter :lol

It has to do with ethical treatment of animals…Factory farming where chickens are in cramped indoor conditions with no sunlight versus a more humane treatment where the chickens are outside part of their day doing their chicken thing. Scratching & walking around, catching some rays. Enlightened people from Los Angeles prefer free range chickens….Your local Trader Joes carries free range….

Knowledge is a great thing. When you have knowledge you can make an informed decision that is best for you, be it financially, morally or otherwise.

I have a lot of animals (i assumed you did as well) which I would never purposefully neglect nor would I purchase from another rancher whom neglected his. For me it comes down to a respect for life.

Which would you rather die for your dinner?

A happy, go lucky, not a care in the world free range chicken?

Or a depressed and possibly suicidal tortured factory prison chicken? Hell, the factory prison chicken probably welcomes death.

So enlightened people want to kill the happy chickens?

Yea but I feel better about myself by eating a healthy animal that was butchered….

I'd rather the suicidal tortured chicken factory prison not exist, so I choose to avoid supporting them financially whenever possible.

My Grandmother grew up on a farm, and she used to say that free-range chickens tasted a lot better. This was 25+ years ago, before free-range what's-it became trendy.
I'll take her word for it.

why?

Why not? I mean, you don't give a shit that to keep birds packed that close, they have to pump them full of antibiotics constantly? "Why?" is enlightened self interest.

Friend…Is the bread whole wheat 7 grain?
Me…Dude you did cocaine last night, and now you are concerned about healthy stuff?

Happy chicken killer.

:lol

But on a serious note... I grew up on a farm and we butchered our own chickens, which is why I never used to get the vegetarian bleeding-heart movement. But now most of the meat we consume comes from factories. "Inhumane" might be subjective, but, like Funt said, my conscience doesn't allow me to support an industry that treats animals like sacks of potatoes that have to be kept alive with antibiotics. It's why (along with ecological reasons) I've started giving up meat completely. If I lived back on the farm, I wouldn't feel guilty about slaughtering my own animals again, but since I don't do it myself anymore and can't know for sure the animal wasn't broken and thrown around before it died, I don't buy it.

Do you know that chickens in pens stand like knee deep in their own shit all day long and most of them nowadays are pumped so full of shit that they grow so fat so quickly that their bones can't support their bodies so they're literally sitting in their own excrement all day...but yeah it's all the same :rolleyes

I don't really give a shit about how we treat chickens. Being at the top of the food chain grants you certain liberties.
