It makes perfect sense honestly. He shot horribly in the first half, then after a good 3rd quarter went 2-9 in the 4th and cost the Lakers the game. Suddenly he's got a "severe ankle sprain". Instead of talking about losing to the hopeless Hawks, the media is fawning over what a warrior he is.
And what do you mean "should have"? Kobe HAS been claiming one injury after another all season long. Hell he practically broke his elbow if you believe reports, except that 3 minutes later he was chucking 3 pointers in game.

Makes perfect sense with his team down 2 points and if a free throw or free throws are missed, he can take another hero shot to win or tie the game?
Complaining about an injury and still playing is not the same thing as the suggestion by some that Kobe actually faked an injury.

You're right, he's probably just such a warrior that he's going to play through a severe ankle sprain. You know, the injury that professional athletes cannot walk on for a week at a time. But Kobe's just that tough. :cry :cry :cry
It's not crazy. It's realistic. It's tripe. As soon as it was diagnosed as "severe" there were a number of ST posters here that were calling that he would be back next game. On a severe ankle sprain, that is impossible. Not unlikely, not improbable. Impossible. The crazy part of all this isn't the hate, it's the obvious fact that the Lakers + Kobe do a little song and dance to make every tiny little injury he has out to be as dire as possible. Anything to glorify det image that he's a warrior, just like MJ. :cry :cry :cry

pretty much. Probably the closest I've seen to a true sociopath in sports. Unfortanetly so many in the media are as narcissistic and starved for attention they don't see anything wrong with some of his behavior. The funniest shit was earlier this season when he was going thru his Tragic Johnson phase, every assist was so overstated so that the media knew it all started because of him.

I love you DMC I really do...but why does it always take Kool to be the voice of reason around here...listen Kobe is nothing short of in a single word
COURAGEOUS!!!
The guy is like half cyborg half assassin... I can't figure out how he does it...I just chalk it up to simply he's a once on a lifetime gift that we should all appreciate...let me explain it for you....
Let's start with the broken hand on the early years he came back from that after I think 3.5 weeks he literally willed himself to heal:
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/Koolbreezey/borkenhandit_zpsd7b4ee8e.jpg
Then we have the infamous finger...where he literally played with it broken and dislocated for over a year...he wore this sleeve and still shot the ball well...
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/Koolbreezey/kif_zps46bd8feb.jpg
Next we have the debilitating back spasms that forced him to his knees...he someone willed his way through that and continued playing:
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/Koolbreezey/backspms1_zpsd4980535.jpg
He then had to face bone on bone knee issues and he still delivered for us back 2 back (no Shaq) titles:
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/Koolbreezey/Kbn_zps95405ff6.jpg
Next up we have the torn ligament in his wrist he played all season with that in a valiant but losing effort:
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/Koolbreezey/brokenligament_zpsddda12b4.jpg
Then he played through a concussion and broken nose (compliments of She-Wade):
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/Koolbreezey/brokennose_zps71038d4e.jpg
Finally we have the ankle and even though it's severely sprained he's going to find the strength to play through it...

Amazing is all I have to say...

The problem with your list is we don't know how much of it is true. Kobe controls the narratives about himself. He tells people what to write. He can make up stories about being incredibly injured, when the injury isn't that serious, and then act like a warrior when he comes back. He brags about it so much it reminds me of Lance Armstrong bragging about 7 tour titles without a postive test. And we all know the truth about that one.

& that's why Daddy went for Kobe after Daddy rang in Miami. He let his mouth overload his ass figuring Kobe wouldn't ring again and he could humiliate him without worry. Media though protected Daddy in the backwash of the '10 Finals. And Kobe knew they would. Kobe's injuries have doctor's notes...so fail in the above example...the doctors are the ones advising him not to play and he plays anyway against their will...just like he played when injured against Phil's will...it took Dr. Buss talking to Kobe for him to sit out....so no Kobe doesn't control the narrative...the risk is to high to his legacy if we found out he was lying...what you see with Kobe is what you get....

If the studio bigwigs had their way the original black cyborg would have been OJ as The Terminator. So that's a pretty fitting nickname since Kobe's destined to go that route. I think he just played the whole first quarter then was benched for being a bag of runny cat shit.
But he played so it will affect his ppg average.
What kind of a self centered egotistical insecure douchebag cannot miss one game due to not trusting his teammates or coach to get the job done? I know one kind for sure.

Hopefully he continues to try to fight thru the injury through the balance of the season, causing the Lakers to be worse off than without him and miss the playoffs entirely.
The Lakers are worse off with him. I've said this all season, but he has a monster game and everyone starts with the dick sucking like he's spawned from the nuts of a Cinnabon roll.

not like dude still gives two shits about his ppg or FG% anyway though. his position on the all-time scoring list seems the only thing he cares about at this point of time, so the more points the better for him even at the expense of his ppg and FG% tbh

Kobe has staved off old age better than most with all the wear on his body over 17 years but he's still getting old and more succeptible to injury. He's showing it now with the recent one. Coming back too early at his age in a young man's game is dumb. His ego will finally destroy him and sooner than we thought. Just wait. If he plays another year or two it will be VERY ugly ala Allen Iverson ugly...
