Flopping occurs at nearly every level of basketball. The only reason people think college players don't flop is because the announcers never call them out.

Wasnt sure if you`re talking about Izzo. Yeah, he`s great coach, but I wouldnt say that Michigan St. have no talent. They simply dont have one-and-done guys, which are Top recruits.

I have them in the final four. Neither Michigan State nor Louisville is a really bad matchup for them since neither team has a great scoring wing or big man, which is what they're weakness is.

Duke with Kelly has lost just one game, and in that time they beat the #1 SOS. They are really good.

Only reason I have Ohio State beating them in the final 4 is because DeShaun Thomas is a total matchup nightmare for them, but I agree they're underrated at this point.

My pick of Kansas to win it all is looking horrible for the most part, unfortunately.

What was up with the basketball court at Jerry World tonight? It looked like the benches for the teams were not leveled like if a player was going to check into the game, he had to step up to get on the court. Seemed dangerous. The court seemed higher than the bench so if a person or player wasn't looking, they could hurt themselves.

Arizona just got better.

When Gordon commits next week, it will further cement this.

They should have hired Boyle from Colorado if they couldn't get the names. Uptempo, strong SoCal recruiter, good young coach. Thanks for not, UCLA!

DUNCANownsKOBE
03-30-2013, 11:14 AM
For that kind of money I'm pretty surprised neither Shaka Smart nor Brad Stevens were interested.

Alford has no excuses to not put a very good team on the court next year. Adams, Anderson, the Wears, Powell and fatshit Parker should all be back and they have a decent recruiting class if no one decommits. They really need to get Rysheed Jordan since they have a giant hole at point guard right now with no replacement for Larry Drew.

There's no way he won't be a better on-court coach than Howland was, this will be a good hire if he can recruit well.

The fact they were willing to make whoever they hired one of the highest paid coaches in college basketball yet couldn't get any names is a problem in and of itself. The only real competition they have for SoCal recruits is Arizona, and they have a good amount of talent coming back. The fact this wasn't an attractive job for coaches like Stevens and Smart doesn't say good things about their program.

With Howland gone, I'm a little surprised they didn't go after Jamie Dixon.

There might really be something to the "stay and build" and "football school" ideals.

Turning down the job as UCLA's football coach isn't the same thing as turning down the job of UCLA's basketball coach :lol

I don't think the Zebras have done too badly. Maybe should have swallowed the whistle a bit more in the first half.

Smith, Dieng, and Siva are just too much... Add in Behanon and UL is clearly the best team in the country. Can't imagine them losing going forward. Duke is better than the other 3 FF teams

Looks like it's gonna be a Big East NCG...I'm ok with any of the teams, but order of preference would be: 1) Wichita St cause of the underdog factor, 2) Louisville, 3) Syracuse, 4) Meeeechigan

I don't remember an underdog I found less appealing than Wichita State. Them making the final four is more a reflection on how much of a joke Gonzaga was as a 1 seed and the poor state of college basketball in general that there could be an entire bracket filled with total shit from top to bottom.

Defensively i think Wichita State is pretty impressive. Hall is a beast down low. On offense it seems like they've been getting a ton of points on flukey stuff and hustle points. That will go away, probably against Louisville.

Other big underdogs in recent years (VCU, George Mason, Davidson, Florida Gulf Coast, etc.) had an element of excitement during their run where you could tell they were playing out of their minds and happened to catch lighting in a bottle at the right time. I don't see that at all with Wichita State, it seems more like they emerged from a pool of mediocrity by default. They're obviously a good team, I just think them in the final four has a lot less to do with how well they've played and more to do with how shitty their bracket/college basketball has been in general this year.

IMO, their defense looks good largely because of how bad offenses have gotten in college basketball. If you can defend the 3 point line and defend against AAU hero ball, you've got a shot since that's all most teams do these days. That's not just Wichita State, it's also why Syracuse and Michigan are in the final four. In years past, Syracuse runs into a team that passes well and can pick its zone apart, while Michigan would have run into a team that was well coached enough to attack its weak defense. Kansas was that team but for whatever reason they would start jacking up 3s after they built a lead by exploiting Michigan's interior defense.

Basically I'm not really trying to talk shit about Wichita State in particular, but more about how bad the quality of college basketball in general has gotten as a whole.

Twenty years ago Gonzaga would have been a 4/5 seed. I remember a comparable one-loss LaSalle team w/Lionel Simmons getting a #4 seed (1990.)

It's funny to me whenever the Zags get beat as a higher seed because nobody bitches more about their seeding/lack of respect on a yearly basis than those guys. They're the worst when it comes to that. And they haven't even gotten past the Sweet 16 but that one time back in '99.

Yeah I know several people from Seattle and they all share a common hatred for Gonzaga because of the sense of entitlement Gonzaga fans have (and the fact Gonzaga is located in a horrible city).

Next year should be a much better year, but the combo AAU and the one year rule has basically destroyed college basketball. Coaches who actually want to get 4-5 star talent have no choice but to let players jack up 30 foot shots and go 1 on 5 whenever they want or else they'll earn the reputation of a hardass who'll hurt your draft stock. The NBA should also rethink the one year rule since it hasn't done the NBA any favors either. The last few drafts have featured about as many NBA ready players as the 1999-2001 drafts did.

BUMP
04-02-2013, 12:18 AM
Like this fellow above me said ^ the one and done rule is completely ruining college basketball. I understand that all these scrubs who had no business entering the NBA draft is the reason this all got started, but that's their own fault. It doesn't do college bball any good to have some potential top draft pick turn his only college b-ball season into a personal NBA tryout while taking Underwater Basketweaving and Art Appreciation to qualify as a "student athlete" (Rolling On The Floor Laughing!)

When you have a large amount of bums going into the draft straight out of high school, you're also going to have a large amount of bums entering the draft after their freshman year of college. The only way to stop all that is to make them stay for 4 years but that's obviously never gonna happen. They just need to go back to the old rule and let the morons who enter too early figure it out themselves.

I agree. I hope Cuse' gives them trouble but the refs allow Louisville to play with an extraordinary amount of physicality.

tuned in with around 13:00 left in the second half, saw a foul called on about 5 straight Wichita possessions, was still trying to root for Wichita...

if the refs realized this was a spectator sport, they would have hair-trigger whistles on that full court defense, and be more lax in the half court. that Louisville full-court press was painful to watch, and the worst that basketball has to offer, that must be punished.

Didn't post in this thread at all because my bracket was busted before the second weekend and never thought in a million years UM would make it all the way to tonight. I had them losing to Kansas. But I'm still excited. Happy to see them there and hope they get it done. Also, Chris Webber better stay away from Atlanta tonight. Tonight is not about him or the Fab Five. Let it be about the kids playing tonight. Same can be said about Kevin Ware. It's not about him. It's about the Louisville Cardinals and Michigan Wolverines. Leave those sensationalized personal interest stories for TMZ.

Also, does sa butta post on here anymore? He should be excited about tonight too.

poor officiating in the first half, but pretty exciting game so far. sucks that Michigan gave up the lead so quickly at the end of the half. but both teams had big unexpected contributions from bench guys, Albrecht more so than Hancock. but that's what makes the college game so fun to watch this time of year, unexpected heroes.
