that's a lawsuit waiting to happen, IMO... she even acknowledges they were jokes, which actually puts her on very shaky ground.

That's why I prefer C over Python. Women's brains are too small to properly understand void pointers and memory management, so you never have to worry about this kind of crap tbh.

Sorry man, only assembly I program is MIX. Stack architectures with 8-bit bytes are for sissies.

Probably. One thing with such actions is the unwelcome verbal nature needs to be confronted, then action can be taken if it continues. There might already be a history that requires the dismissal.

Anyone actually know the facts?

finally, a little offsetting in the war against women. Nothing women do totally offsets the rape culture.

but get back to us when you guys come in here justifying men raping women while claiming "she asked for it", or "she didn't resist" or "she's lying"

What does one have to do with the other?

So in your world, because some creeps get off on raping women, that gives all women the right to do stupid shit like getting men fired over a joke? That man has three kids and no job in a down economy with which to support them, all because a dumb bitch couldn't handle a joke that wasn't directed at her....

She overreacted, and posting their faces to Twitter definitely is a whole lot worse than an off-color joke. But his employer should have also realized this, and instead they fired him. So that part of it is on them.

I like the legal theory. I can drive drunk and say I'm not responsible because I was drunk so you can't give me a DWI.

these are her comments:

Hey,
Thanks for speaking up, contributing your viewpoint on HN and not attacking me.
I'm sorry to hear your employer deciding to not to work with you on this and I hope they reconsider, bring you back on and dealing with it constructively.
For context, I'm a developer evangelist.
That means I'm an advocate for developers, male and female. While I hear abou demanding bosses with impossible deadlines for product launches, I also hear about the experiences of women working at startups.
In both cases I offer suggestions, ideas and mentoring to help the developers become problems solvers. Sometimes the answer is our API or not answering email after 7pm while other times it about being assertive and shedding impostor syndrome.
The forking joke set the stage for the dongle joke. Yes, this time I decided I didn't want to argue my perspective. I decided instead to accept it bothered me and took action based on the PyCon Code of Conduct. It sounds like if I'd said something about the forking you would have denied it having a sexual association. Not sure if I smiled but I'm also unsure what facial expression you would have expected.

that being said she has been attacked for some lewd comments she made on her twitter account:

https://twitter.com/adriarichards/status/312265091791847425

although those comments were made on her own acct and not in a work setting.

not sure what the PyCon code of conduct is but i'll try to locate it.

That poor woman! She was being oppressed by jokes that weren't even directed towards her, so she had to stand up to her oppressors by snitching to security instead of confronting them.

That little girl will have a chance now. :cry

As a result, she can no longer be effective in her role at SendGrid.

Yeah. Good link. If he is a shitty software devoloper and this was an excuse to fire him...then I have no problem with it.

But if I had a nickle for everytime I have made a dongle joke.....well shit...I'd have an extra buck fifty.
