Rand Paul Explains Black History to Black People
Rand Paul Explains Black History to Black PeopleIn a speech at Howard University, the Kentucky senator tried to change his record on the Civil Rights Act and explained to an African American audience all the great things the GOP has done for them.He explained black history to black people. He suggested that he was brave to have shown up.

He quoted a poem (http://relays%20the%20thoughts%20of%20a%20sexually%20frus trated%20middle-aged%20man%20who%20wants%20to%20say%20something%20 but%20is%20afraid%20to%20do%20so%2C%20and%20ultima tely%20does%20not./) that is said to be the lament of a sexually frustrated middle-aged man.

Paul went on to deny killing budget autonomy (http://dcist.com/2013/04/rand_paul.php) for the District of Columbia, despite the three poison-pill amendments he added to the bill.

During the question-and-answer period, he chided a young voting rights activist for comparing voter ID laws to the obstructions African Americans faced at the polls during Jim Crow.

he said he had nothing against the 1964 Civil Rights Act -- despite being on record as opposing the provision that desegregated the lunch counters that were occupied at great peril by the Freedom Riders who fought the South's Jim Crow laws.

Rand Paul went to Howard U. and took 20 min of unscripted questions. That's what I like. Someone who's not afraid of talking about conservativism. I'm voting for him in '16.

:lol

He asked the kids if they knew which party founded the NAACP! :lol

I'm sure he picked up lots of black votes :lol

I watched snippets on Maddow, the guy has no charisma, no stature, no public speaking ability, and he's typical extreme right asshole full of Randian sociopathy and bullshit.

Rand Paul has been an absolute disaster. And has absolutely zero shot at POTUS. He took issue with the civil rights act for mandating private business end dicrimanatory practices. Who in their right mind thinks this moron is electable on a national level?

Maddow to Rand Paul: You’re lying to our faces and we know it

Not long after that Sen. Rand Paul (http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/04/11/maddow-to-rand-paul-youre-lying-to-our-faces-and-we-know-it/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TheRawStory+%28The+Raw+Story% 29#) (R-KY) gave kind of a hilariously awful speech to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, in which he likened his personal affinity for Latinos to comedian Jerry Seinfeld’s professed attraction to Asian women and read the audience a love poem by Chilean socialist poet Pablo Neruda.

“Don’t do it,” said Maddow, cringing in the embarrassment that Paul is apparently incapable of feeling. “Don’t do it, just…don’t.”

Not content to alienate one of the most politically powerful Latino organizations in the country, Paul took his personal brand of tin-eared minority outreach to traditionally African-American Howard University in Washington, D.C., where he informed students that if they knew as much about African-American history as he did, they would all vote Republican.

“I mean, how many of you would have,” Paul said, “if I would have said, ‘Who do you think the founders of the NAACP are, do you think they are Republicans or Democrats,’ would everybody here know they are all Republicans?”

When the crowd erupted in jeers at his condescension, Paul said, “All right, all right, you know more than I know, okay. I don’t mean that to be insulting. I don’t know what you know. I’m trying to find out what the connection is.”

During a question from a student about vote suppression and Paul’s public statements about the Civil Rights Act, the Senator declared, “I’ve never been against the Civil Rights Act, ever. I still continue to be for the Civil Rights Act, as well as enforcement of the 14th Amendment.”

That runs directly counter to statements Paul made on “The Rachel Maddow Show” in 2010 (http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/05/20/maddow-presses-rand-paul-supporting-racist-businesses/). Maddow said that she remembers it because it was the last time Paul ever spoke to her, after she spent 15 minutes trying to get Paul to clarify his position on the Civil Rights Act.“Don’t do it,” said Maddow, cringing in the embarrassment that Paul is apparently incapable of feeling. “Don’t do it, just…don’t.”

The Howard interview had him questioning the civil rights act on the basis of federalism ie if KY wants segregated bathroooms then that is for them to decide.

Jon Stewart rips apart Rand Paul’s attempted outreach to black studentsStewart also noted that during his speech, Paul condescendingly explained that Republicans had at one point been strong supporters of civil rights for African Americans. But Paul completely ignored the political realignment that occurred in the mid-20th century and the so-called “Southern strategy” used by Republicans.

“You can’t just yada yada yada the last 60 Republican years,” he remarked. “‘A Republican freed the slaves, gave black people the vote, yada yada yada and now all blacks vote Democratic. I mean, what the hell.’”

US Airways Tells Black Passengers to Change Out of Jeans and Hoodies Before Boarding First-Class

When McCraig and Miles Warren tried to claim their first-class seats on a US Airways flight, an employee told them to first change into more appropriate attire, according to a federal discrimination lawsuit (http://dockets.justia.com/docket/california/cacdce/2:2013cv02549/559173/) filed Wednesday.

A ticket counter employee repeatedly told the Warrens, who are both black, that their jeans, hooded sweatshirts and baseball caps violated an alleged first-class dress code. As the complaint states:

Doe employee informed plaintiffs that it was US Airways policy that everyone in first class is required to wear slacks, button up shirts and no baseball caps. Doe employee demanded plaintiffs to change from jeans into slacks, a button-up shirt and told plaintiffs to remove their baseball caps.

Sen. Rand Paul’s chief of staff called South Carolina’s Republican chairman earlier this month to express disappointment that the state party invited freshman sensation Sen. Ted Cruz to speak at its marquee fundraising dinner rather than the Kentuckian.

Doug Stafford, Paul’s top aide, told Chad Connelly, the South Carolina GOP chief, that Paul’s team had hoped to attend high-profile state party dinners in each of the traditional early states this spring, three sources familiar with the call told POLITICO.
