This could be bad news for oil/gas/distillate prices on Monday. Cindy caused power outages in LA and the region lost about 190 mbpd of refining capacity as a result. Will Dennis have a similar impact?

:lol

My sister (Army) was stationed in Hawaii for three years, and didn't see so much as a thunderstorm for two of the three.

She got re-assigned to Ft. Rucker, Alabama last June and they got hit by two hurricanes last year and this looks to be bearing down on them.

Mother Nature can be pretty damn ironic sometimes.

The markets are scared, $61 ppb and climbing...slowly. Any future, serious distruptions in refining capacity could send prices soaring domestically, but I don't think Dennis will be it.

Here was Hurricane Dennis going by Cuba...

http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Newsroom/NewImages/Images/Dennis_TMO_2005188.jpg

There may be 32 or more dead in Cuba...

HAVANA (Reuters) - Deadly Hurricane Dennis left behind a battered Cuba with shattered houses, shredded power lines and debris-littered streets on Saturday and reintensified over the warm Gulf of Mexico after a Caribbean rampage that killed at least 32 people.

Dennis weakened as it crossed Cuba from a ferocious 150 mph_(240 kph) hurricane to a 90 mph (144 kph) storm, but immediately regained some of its lost strength when it hit open water and skirted Key West, the popular tourist island at the end of the Florida Keys chain.

The storm headed on a northwest track that threatened key oil and natural gas fields in the Gulf of Mexico, where a quarter of U.S. production comes from, and was expected to hit the U.S. mainland between the Florida panhandle and Mississippi on Sunday.

Roaring winds with gusts of up to 100 mph (165 kph) and driving rain pounded blacked-out Havana all night. Authorities cut off power to avoid accidents from fallen cables.

A weakened Dennis ploughed through the countryside just east of the capital city of 2 million, knocking down trees and power lines, but causing relatively minor damage.

"The wind was terrible and there was so much rain, but we are in one piece here," said the owner of a pizzeria in Guanabo, a beach town 15 miles (23 km) east of Havana.

some goldman analysts forecasted $100 crude within the next few years, if that is what you are referring to. it would take a major, major supply disruption to cause that.

none of the brokerage houses on wall st wants $100 crude. trust me.

The Goldman analyst in question didn't even actually forecast $100 crude, only said that a temporary spike to $100 was possible, but unlikely. There is another analyst (Friedman Billings maybe) that has said $100 crude is possible in the next 6 months. I stand by my glass ceiling of $65-70 for oil prices. The point elasticity of demand beyond that increases exponentially.
